BEL MOONEY: Am I wrong to leave my wife for a 2-week Thai romance?

Featured Replies

Dear Bel

I'm a truck driver who still works a 15-hour day at 73. In my 20s, I married a posh girl I loved because she was skinny. (I hate myself for this, but if a girlfriend put on weight I'd engineer a split.)

We had two children I loved, but she had an affair.

A while later I met a lovely girl called Pat who was 7½ st. Over the years her weight doubled, so we split up but remained friends...

"I'll still go to Thailand. Am I wrong to want two weeks of happiness? Go on, shoot me down"

Sounds like you need professional help/therapy.....

I thought it was a georgegeorgia thread.

There was a divorce lawyer who literally said one guy had a prenup that stated if the wife gained weight, she would get less money in an eventual breakup.

Do it, you only live once, enjoy yourself.

If true then, though unsavoury,  he likely has helped the Filipino girl get a good life in England, with a probably a good paying job to send money home. She gets her freedom now and doesn't have years having to take care of an aging guy so not so bad. Assuming she doesn't madly love the old guy which I think is not a strong likelihood.
Looks like he's spent a lot of money already on kids and family - Thai lady may end up disappointed.

What a shocker website full of ads and pop ups and crap.

Daily Mail reminds me of Joe Jackson song:

Mother doesn't go out anymore
Just sits at home and rolls her spastic eyes
But every weekend through the door
Come words of wisdom from the world outside
If you want to know 'bout the bishop and the actress
If you want to know how to be a star
If you want to know 'bout the stains on the mattress
You can read it in the Sunday papers

That's why I only read the 'Guardian'

(sarcastic alert)

So who is your wife going to have a two week romance with? And what are you going to do for two weeks?😉

Two weeks is not enough.

I left my wife/wives about 43 years ago.

Best decisions I ever made.

Leaving for two weeks is pointless....because...then...

You must worry about your return.

Seems fair enough.  Aside from some medical conditions there is no reason for someone to go from being slim to being fat, other than greed and laziness.

I have home-country friends that leaves their family for a two week Thai romance – some of them did it at some point every year – it actually saved their marriages, and was thereby a benefit for the family. I'm pretty sure the wives knew what was going on, even it was never spoken about.

True. Wives keep you alive to make life a living hell for their personal enjoyment.

"Mum left me £1,500 and I bought Mia's family a plot and built them a house."

" I gave my daughters large sums of money so they wouldn't resent Mia."

"She wouldn't speak to me, but I gave her £1,200. "

Another Alpha male in SE Asia

Hell half the males come to thailand are married and doing what you are planning to do…they just won’t admit it

call it lust not romance thus a better chance of not being taken to the cleaners

Your 73 go for it you haven't got long left. If you go to Pattaya get a room on bottom floor.

😄
