IDF launches new operation in Gaza City, troops raid UNRWA compound used by Hamas

In a statement on Monday morning, the military said it was also operating at UNRWA’s headquarters, located near the Rimal neighborhood, where the IDF previously found significant Hamas tunnel infrastructure and killed and captured numerous gunmen.

Meanwhile, in Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood, troops with the 98th Division killed dozens of Hamas operatives — involved in anti-tank attacks and rocket fire on Israel — including by calling in airstrikes, the IDF said.

Separately, in the Gaza Strip’s southernmost city of Rafah, the IDF said troops with the 162nd Division had killed more than 30 gunmen over the past day, as well as located tunnel shafts and weapons. The offensive in Rafah began in early May.

The terrorists doing what they do best, using human shields and infrastructure. The UNRWA HQ again.

IDF raids UNRWA HQ in Gaza City it says was used by terror groups

During the raid, troops killed and detained several gunmen and located a large amount of weaponry, according to the IDF.

Also in the past day, the IDF says troops with the 98th Division killed dozens of gunmen in Gaza City’s eastern Shejaiya neighborhood, amid a separate operation there.

A tunnel was also demolished in Shejaiya, the military says.

Meanwhile, operations also continue in southern Gaza’s Rafah, where the IDF says troops with the 162nd Division killed several terror operatives, located weapons, and destroyed tunnels in the past day.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-raids-unrwa-hq-in-gaza-city-it-says-was-used-by-terror-groups/

Israeli troops operating in Gaza City's Shejaiya neighborhood have demolished so far six Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad tunnels amid the latest operation there, launched less than two weeks ago, according to the IDF.

At least three more tunnels have been located and are in the process of being mapped out and demolished.

One of the destroyed tunnels is considered by the IDF to be Islamic Jihad's "flagship" tunnel in Gaza City. The recently discovered 2.5-kilometer-long tunnel was used by the terror group for command and control, according to military assessments. Troops found laptops, weaponry, and intelligence material inside, indicating it was still being used by the terror group recently.

Interesting, Hamas has already opened a new office in Iraq

Palestinian militias, including Hamas, are continuing to coordinate militarily and politically with Iranian-backed Iraqi militias.

The PFLP, Hamas, and PIJ delegations’ visit to Baghdad comes amid reports that Hamas plans to relocate its political leadership to Iraq. Emirati media reported in late June 2024 that Hamas plans to move its political leadership to Iraq due to growing pressure from the United States and Qatar on Hamas to show greater flexibility in ceasefire negotiations with Israel.[v] Iran will reportedly be responsible for protecting Hamas personnel and offices in Iraq. The Emirati report followed the opening of a Hamas political office in Baghdad in early June 2024.

Have any commentators upon this thread ever set foot for any lengthy period of time in the "Middle East", apart from a transit through Dubai (Emirates) - Doha (Qatar Airways)?

Are all quickly led to believe that any and all of "mainstream media reporting" is honorable and thus fact?

Never give up hope so still keeping fingers crossed for the remaining hostages languishing in the tunnels and residences of Gaza.

A Gaza cease-fire agreement appears within reach

A senior U.S. official told me Wednesday that “the framework is agreed” and the parties are now “negotiating details of how it will be implemented.” To forge the deal, Middle East adviser Brett McGurk and CIA Director William J. Burns have been shuttling among regional capitals since November.
Officials caution that although the framework is in place, a final pact probably isn’t imminent, and the details are complex and will take time to work through.

Ceasefire deal 'within reach,' US official says, which includes interim gov't in Gaza - report
The "interim governance" plan, the op-ed says, would see neither Israel nor Hamas control Gaza, but a "core group of 2,500 supporters of the Palestinian Authority" backed by moderate Arab allies.

Before such an interim government takes hold, the first phase of the agreement would see 33 hostages who are alive released by Hamas, which include all remaining female captives, men over the age of 50, and any of those who are injured. Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners would be released by Israel, and its forces would be withdrawn from areas considered densely populated in the Gaza Strip's eastern border.

I spent a few years in Saudi and visited Bahrain and the Emirates. My opinion of that part of the world is not flattering, despite them having incredible amounts of our money, none of which came to them because they were astute businessmen and manufacturers.

My opinion of the MSM is on a par with my opinion of Saudi.

US Interviews Hamas Hostage Victims, Families in Terror Probe

The US Justice Department is interviewing survivors and families of victims of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack in Israel as it attempts to build a sweeping case against the militant group and its financial backers.
The individuals, including former hostages and families of US citizens murdered abroad, have sat down with prosecutors and FBI agents in recent months, according to people familiar with the investigation. Some have traveled from Israel and provided videos and text messages to help authorities build a chronology of the attack and identify who carried out the kidnappings.

Rescued hostage sues US nonprofit for ties to Gaza journalist who held him

Almog Meir Jan, one of four hostages from the Gaza Strip rescued in a daring raid by Israeli security forces, filed suit on Tuesday against a U.S. nonprofit for employing the Arab journalist who held him captive, thereby aiding and abetting Hamas’s crimes.

Meir Jan, 22, was held by Abdallah Aljamal (sometimes spelled Abdullah al-Jamal), a reporter for The Palestine Chronicle, run by the People Media Project, a tax-exempt organization located in Olympia, Washington, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

"If Hamas does not agree to this proposal, the US may well give up its attempts to hammer out a deal before November, and indicate to Israel that it agrees that there is nothing left to try other than intensified military pressure."

There is still hope

With victory starting to slip away, Deif strike comes at worst time for Sinwar

PA officials are openly lambasting Hamas. Munir Al-Jaghoub said on Sunday in an interview with the Saudi al-Arabiya outlet, “If Hamas wanted to fight face-to-face with Israel, it would’ve done so in areas where the army is located, and not in places where there are people. Hamas is actually hiding between the residents to protect and save itself.”

PA President Mahmoud Abbas also said that Hamas bears “legal, moral, and political responsibility” for Israel’s war in Gaza.

Notably, after Saturday’s strike, while characteristically denouncing Israel for the deaths of civilians, Hamas’s officials were still quick to deny rumors that it was pulling out of hostage talks — indicating that it sees a deal as more pressing than in the past.

This war criminal's stupidity is beyond belief.

But US President Joe Biden has a different view of Washington’s role in the war.

“I’m the guy that did more for the Palestinian community than anybody,” he said in an interview that aired online on Monday.

Just as well he's already proven himself somewhat mentally challenged or I might be boggled by such a moronic claim. I'll just assume he got confused and meant to say israeli instead of Palestinian.

Sinwar is one of the main Hamas leaders who said that "civilian deaths are ‘necessary sacrifices". While he and his family are safe in the tunnels. Scum.

Hamas leader ‘under pressure’ from his commanders to agree a ceasefire
CIA reportedly believes Yahya Sinwar not ‘concerned with his mortality’ but is being blamed for civilian suffering in Gaza

Yahya Sinwar is not “concerned with his mortality” but is under pressure because of the suffering in Gaza which he is being blamed for, CIA director Bill Burns told a closed-door conference, according to CNN.
A US official also told the news channel that Washington is under the impression that Sinwar no longer wants to rule Gaza, opting instead for an “interim governance” plan as part of a ceasefire with Israel where the terror group won’t control Gaza.

Just a few months too late and something that we all knew anyway but still, at least they finally acknowledged just some of the war crimes by Hamas in a token 236 page report.

Human Rights Watch details hundreds of war crimes by Hamas-led terrorists on Oct. 7

Hamas led armed Palestinian groups in committing hundreds of highly coordinated war crimes, including attacks on civilians and gender-based violence, during the October 7 onslaught on Israel that set off the war in Gaza, Human Rights Watch said in a comprehensive report published Wednesday.

One of the most in-depth international studies on the unprecedented incursion into southern Israel outlines a host of potential war crimes cases during the attack, in which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

HRW, a frequent critic of Israel’s policy toward the Palestinians, failed at the time to condemn the attack outright, according to a senior editor who left the group soon afterward claiming that antisemitism had pervaded the organization.

Just heard on Al Jazeera that the US military is pulling the plug on the floating pier fiasco. Complete waste of 230 million US $.

IMO it was also a waste of time given Biden could have forced netanyahu to open the land borders.

One hopes that the US military never has to build another floating pier if they are so incapable of doing so. They did better on D Day. If that was now- "sorry, but you'll have to cancel the invasion of Europe as the pier floated away in a rough sea".

On the terrorist front there is still a long way to go but getting there............

Hamas is weakened, but there’s no room for complacency

Senior officers in the IDF are sounding increasingly upbeat about the progress of the war — and the process of dismantling Hamas’s military capabilities.

The army doesn’t claim to have found, much less destroyed, all of Hamas’s tunnels. In the Rafah area, for instance, it envisages long work ahead to disable the underground infrastructure to the point where it could not be resurrected — partly because the routes through which Hamas smuggled in arms from Egypt extend deep into the densely populated city, where blowing up sections of tunnels is fraught with complexity. But gradually and inexorably, the tunnel threat is being reduced, especially as the IDF advances its kilometer-wide buffer zone inside Gaza all along the border with Israel.
