You should be thanking those beach vendors for protecting you.

Many unsuspecting (and uninformed) tourists get bitten by monkeys. I do not think that Hepatitis B should be on your bucket list.

And rabies !!

What gives them the right to behave in this manner?

The same law that gives the monkeys the right to steal people's property.

It is called the law of the jungle

surely there is a law against such barbaric behavior?

How can they be so cruel toward animals?

you ever have a face-off with one of those devils?

i have, when i lived in petchaburi. they are aggressive and do bite. they can claw and bite your face off in seconds. they will steal food out of your hands and if challenged will fight back.

so, i understand the beach vendors and sympathize with them. i had monkeys in my house... they are destructive. forget the cute image of them you have in your brain... all babies are cute, till they grow.

now if only they made bob smith virtual sling shots...  :glare:

As long as you don't kick one, no problem.

today I witnessed something truly horrifying.

A few monkeys came onto the beach, presumably on the lookout for food,

when 3 beach vendors armed with slingshots started firing at them!!

I was mortified,

so were the rest of the customers.

This happened at a well known tourist location in a secluded part of the beach.

it has completely ruined my afternoon.

would they do the same to cats?

I kinda doubt it.

bob.

And so they should these little barstads steal fruit and other food from Restaurants and vendors trying to make a living, On Koh Chang there is a 2k fine for feeding monkeys.

There is nothing iherenently good in stealing food either.

I agree. It's cruel to use a sling shot on any animal.

But, if they become invasive... for example around your house, then you will understand this issue.

Monkeys can be a real pain in the a$$ or more.

Sometimes, the increase of these animal populations can be very dangerous and destructive when they start to invade. Australia culls kangaroos annually.

Oh I don't know, have you ever tried it ???

And... as with many issues, you are using a singular example to paint with very broad strokes.

Why do they need to use a slingshot ???.... whats the alternative ?? real bullets ? poison ?

The issue is that people are too stupid and feed the monkeys, so they become more brave, more dangerous etc and end up not being scared of humans so they 'encroach' and become pests.

-------

We were in Koh Chang staying at a resort where the staff also fired slingshots at the monkeys...  The staff had to, the Monkeys are nasty little b@5tards that are confident enough to try and get into your bungalow....  they'll steel your towels and anything you leave outside - they are vermin.

But the worst part, they can attack. My Son walked out onto the veranda and there were a couple of monkeys there - they bared their teeth, aggressively hissed at my son and moved towards him...   I was just behind him so they ran when I came out... but initially it looked like they were prepared to attack a child.

IMO, the resort didn't do enough to ensure the area was safe for kids, but also, what else can the resort do ???

So, in cases such as this where Bob Smith will accuse Thai's of treating animals inhumanely, it is perhaps people like Bob who were too kind and over-fed the monkeys in the first place which created the situation which now exists...

Point here Bob - you're pointing the finger at the negative, without understanding the probable cause....

Oh please come to Koh Chang you will be Fined and rightly so. They pull over rubbish bins worse than Soi dogs, there is enough food for them in nature for them to eat.

They're smarter than you Bob....     they won't bite you... you are bigger and more powerful than they are and they know that.

So all that will happen is more and more Monkeys come to where they get fed, because you (and people like you) will feed them....

... The issue is when a child is there and not feeding them, the monkeys get angry and will attack.

Of, if a child is there to feed them, the monkeys are impatient and will attack a child for the bag of food they are carrying

In short Bob....  the issue itself is caused by the very people who are so weak they can't face any of the solutions.....

Yes sent back where they belong, in the flipping trees.

bob.

Perhaps the humans who provide the extra food source should be deported as they are contributing to the Monkey overpopulation issues....

Its just like those who feed the soi-dogs.....  so more soi dogs come around, sh!££ing everywhere, spreading disease, howling at night, becoming territorial for food and making walking or cycling down the street less safe... ...   when when the dogs are taken away, these so-called dog lovers complain at the inhuman response to a problem they contributed too...... except they are so dumb, they don't see how every 'dog feeder' in the area makes the issue of strays worse than better for the contribute to the sufferring of future generations of dogs too....

So, Bob, you and everyone else... Feeding your monkeys, ensures more fit and healthy monkeys to procreate and produce more monkeys, which need more food, which become more territorial, more confident, encroach more into human areas's.... become desperate and brave enough to 'grab and snatch' and attack...,

... You Bob (and people like you) are the very cause of the problem others are having to resolve for you....

Years ago I had one break off a tree branch and throw it down at me while I was trying to get to my motorbike, there were about 20 running allover the bungalows where I was staying, and damaging them.

never mind the law... i fear the monkeys even more. you wouldnt get away with kicking one... you'd have a whole family of monkeys tearing you apart. dont ever think you can fight a monkey and leave unscathed... the devil's demons i tell ya...

actually that is bob smith with his 'none of your business' attitude

hey bob. you get tired of the russians and move to your tent on the beach?

maybe you should teach the vendors your russian stare down

No problem for bob he lives with it anyway, his brain has adapted. His wife told me while he was away shagging others. He could also have monkey pox.

Cheaper than a catapult?  Huh?  And legal on the beach?

In the few times I've been around the monkey havens they've been unwatched, huge numbers, waiting to snatch/grab anything that might get their attention..... They're not cute & can be intimidating if you have a family/group to watch out for that catches their attention....

Even to the point of them jumping onto the hood of the car while we were trying to drive away....Sling shots are better than euthanizing them or paint ball guns.....

At the places I've been it's clearly their territory....
