Crossy
We bought our Ford Ranger new in 2005. Yesterday we received a recall notice for a "potentially dangerous" airbag, need to take the car to a local dealer to be checked. So, we've been driving around for 19 years with airbags that might not go off, and if they do, they may rip your head off! Wonderful. Just how many duff airbags are really out there? Maybe because an airbag at near 20 years old has been found to deteriorate, well it does have a 'BANG' thing inside.....😱 Perhaps your ride wasn't designed to last that long.....😋..........🤭

ExpatOilWorker
I got the same letter from BMW. Apparently it is only the drivers airback that is ready to kill you.

You also used that car to (almost) kill an old lady on a bicycle 🚲, right? It has seen its fair share of action.

Its reckoned around 67 million defective Takata airbags were made. Its actually the Takata PSAN inflator unit that's the problem. The chemicals inside (ammonium nitrate) degrade and the inflator can detonate abruptly rather than combust and inflate smoothly. This can throw parts of the inflator and shroud into the face of the occupant. The degradation is worse in hot climates. I part-own a sales/service car dealership in the UK and we always ensure recalls are done on used cars we offer for sale. We have to take cars to the franchise dealer - very inconvenient because there have been long delays on supply of some of these airbag units and we are reluctant to sell a car with an outstanding airbag recall. Honda, Mazda, Ford are worst affected but pretty much all manufacturers seem to have installed them at some time or other. 2

A sprained ankle is hardly "almost kill" and she was "ghost-riding" with no lights.
Lacessit
It's a funny thing about modern cars, they seem to have more and more things to go wrong. I drive an elderly Vios, it does not have ABS, let alone an airbag.
