Hi there, I walked past the new Best Supermarket this morning, I noticed that it officially opens tomorrow Sat April 20. It's opposite the Susco servo between Sois 25 and 27, It's over the road from where I live. So that will be less stress on my old legs.

No---new developments coming...that is why there is a new one on Naklua Road.

Its going to be replaced by another multi story hotel complex similar to the Space Hotel.

Does the new best have parking for cars?

There is a car park there but it's hard to say how many cars it will hold.

I quit using the North Pattaya Road Best a long time ago - no place to park.  It used to be you could park on North Road fairly close to Best entry door (not many spaces, but I usually found at least one available).  Then they made it no parking for that whole area of North Road near Best. The very few parking spaces behind Best were almost always full, so I gave up on shopping there.

Maybe take the Peace Resort too? Nice enough place in the old days in that area but fell on hard times with the changing demographics.

Kiss was a fixture in that area (Naklua Rd., corner T21 took, Naklua Rd again--failed) for decades. No real replacement for it.

You're thinking of the seating under the big tree in back where many an old fart, most often an old German fart, enjoyed a Chang or wine cooler. That will be missed.

The old place had been there decades and had the local feel that's fast disappearing in Pattaya. New place is upscale and gentrified. Not sure how great the new location really is. On the corner and across from T21 was prime.

Well, give it time. I went by today, and they're still stocking the shelves and got plenty of room to spare.

Everywhere in Naklua is being knocked down to build top of the range hotels, especially on the Wongamart side of Naklua Road. I'd say Best Supermarket along with the Peace Hotel were forced to go. Maybe the offer was to good to knock back. Give them a month as it's been one hell of a job to move all their stock. I'm sure things will change once things are settled down. One up side is the new shop has a superb alcohol section.

One other point worth considering is that the old Best Supermarket and the Peace Resort may have been built on long term leased land.

That whole area is being redeveloped.  The new Akara Hotel just opened.  Close by to it a 2-building highrise project will be going up--Once Wongamat, a second project to the first, Once Pattaya.   All the one-story older stuff from there to the circle and around past the old Best has been boarded up and some of it has started to be torn down.  Will be interesting to see what else new will be going into those spaces.

Closer to the beach, Centre Point 3 is slated for a huge tract of land in front of Cape Dara and Wyndham Grand, another big highrise project, is planned for just down the street.  Both joining Arom Wongamat, nearing completion.  Centara Grand Resort has started what looks to be extensive renovations.

As I go for my long daily walk every morning in that area I see every thing that's going on. It appears that work has started on the extra large land behind Space Hotel. Yesterday when I walked past the open gates they were digging the foundations and trucks were removing the soil. Now tour buses have taken over that area and many are driven by people who have a Thai motor bike riders mentality.

Open for a month and a half now and the front area is still a shabby mess? I've asked them about it a few times, may as well be talking to a wall. I don't know about that store layout feng shuiIMG_20240608_100659.thumb.jpg.9f1bebd8f573e748bb761518cf585e52.jpg

There is inside and outside very little progress. The whole operation was not very well managed.

The inside of this building has a horrible layout. Its like walking into an old warehouse with very high ceilings. Stupid design that will cost so much to cool.

It's a lot more than high ceilings: The market should have been squared right up to Naklua Rd with parking on the side. This wavy design  business with parking in front is very awkward. Especially if walking to.

It's horrible.. uninviting. Even when entering there is the feeling of being watched.

Apart from the derelict looking frontage, the first thing you see on approach is alcohol.

For a family resort?

It's totally sterile. No pleasant smells, no offers...nothing to attract you at all. A coffee shop with tasty offerings at the front might draw people in. Warm pastries. They can follow their noses. People will talk about it. A special offers board perhaps. Maybe some advertising of unique products they sell that the other supermarkets do not.

They are just continuing the business model they had at the old location for donkey's years. If it isn't broke don't fix it, I suppose.

Foodland, not too far away, have a restaurant attached if that is a "must have".

Are you encouraging people to go to Foodland? 🙂

To what business model are you referring? Are you suggesting that the new supermarket is identical to the previous incarnation? Then why are people complaining?

I don't know if you've noticed, but there hasn't been much in the way of positive comment.

The older place fit with the demographic at the time, which was a lot of German residents. Now there are more Russians, Chinese and Arabs.

I go to Best for most of my shopping; Foodland very rarely.

Other people can choose where to shop themselves without any help from me.

Piccollo restaurant is practically next door to Best if I want a coffee or a meal. I reccomend their jam pancakes with a coffee.

The business model I am referring to is that they just sell farang and Thai foods along with a big choice of booze and tobacco products. Pretty basic, I think.

I guess that some were expecting more from the new place, namely a cafe/restaurant, maybe a bar and go-go dancers 😉

Perhaps it should be brought to your attention that this thread is not about you. 😊 It's a discussion about the supermarket. They already sell a lot more than you suggest.

Cafe, restaurant, bar and go-go dancers are all figments of your imagination.

I wrote 'coffee shop'. The rest you made up. You obviously think you are very funny.

Are you another one who uses the term 'farang' to describe foreigners?
