Someone younger is typically viewed as better (for obvious reasons), so it seems counterintuitive to be saying that people would rather have somehtng worse, but are forced to look for something better, as their second choice.

I was recently back home in the mother country. Met a few old friends from school. The females looked so old and unattractive to me. What guy would want this when one can have a girl 20 yrs younger.

I hope the answer is "None," but I wasn't referring to this thread specifically.  AN and its predecessor have never had a big problem in that direction.  On other boards, Web sites, Facebook groups, chatrooms, etc. there have been dozens through the years.  That why it's so important to warn people in clear language.  Look at the title of this thread:  Whats the legal age of consent in Thailand. Its confusing.  I'd say at least the OP in this thread is uncertain about the rules.

 

Even on AN, questions about the age of consent come up with regularly.   I'll add a screenshot of some of the results that turn up when you do a search for "age of consent" in the title.  The only point that needs to be made is that it's always illegal in Thailand to pay for sex with a girl under 18.

Between the age of 35 and 50 when I was single I could have easily found a partner as long as I wanted some children to go with her. As I had dumped a women with kids that wasn't an option.

 

It's amazing how many single women with kids there are out there.

I even went out on a blind date with an older woman with no children living with her, but when the gangster son turned up on his motorbike I felt a sudden urge to not get to know her any better.

 

When single women of my age with no children got friendly, it was generally obvious why they were single.

       In  my opinion there is something not quite  right going on when middle aged men start concerning themselves about  the age of consent and especially those asking if it  is 15  !

        It is also rather telling how well informed some members appear to be regarding this matter, some have obviously done a significant amount of research regarding the matter 

        Would it not be easier and safer all round for these border line pedos  to stick to women 21+  and if they need to indulge their dubious  "fantasies" buy them a school uniform or something

        I'm sure you would all sleep a lot easier at night and as a bonus, no need to seek reassurance in threads like this

             To be honest I have absolutely no Idea, however I've been here long enough to understand the subjective way the law is applied here,  So i strongly suspect that in practice it varies according to the status of those involved. 

            Estimates amongst members on here seem to vary between 15 and 21 I'm guessing that one of them must be correct , so, if I was asked the same question  by a stranger in a bar  I would answer "not sure but assume 21 to be safe"    Its not something I have ever worried about  I was never particularly  interested in women young enough to be considered underage I always preferred the more mature specimen

I don't believe you.  There aren't estimates.  People generally ask or answer, and the law normally gets quoted.  If you read through the threads discussing age of consent on here (and you must have read a few since you've formulated theories about the people that contribute to them), you would definitely know.

 

So, by your logic, the information you have "says a lot about you".

Ditto for prostitution, age-gap relationships, vocational school violence, drug addiction, or really any other social issue in Thailand.  People simply like to know about this stuff.  It doesn't mean they want to be part of it.  Documentaries/movies about serial killers are very popular, but the audience isn't restricted to people who want to be serial killers.

        Sorry to disappoint you but i gave up being concerned about the age of consent not long after i reached that age myself. and that was a long time before I ever came here   I banged plenty of underage girls in my youth, but as I was underage myself its kind of irrelevant, To be honest I can't see the attraction for a middle aged guy. I wasn't particularly impressed  but there were no other options for a randy 14 year old lad.  I moved on to older women as soon as they were interested in me ie once I got a job and started shaving and I never looked back

 

The fact is its common knowledge why a certain kind of person comes to Thailand,  and only to be expected that some will find their way here

NO,  I am definitely NOT saying that.  The legal status of prostitution in Thailand is very much a gray area and is open to interpretation, depending on the circumstances.   The language used in some relevant Thai laws is vague, so there's a possibility of "issues"  even when the person providing sexual services is well above the minimum age.

 

What is crystal clear under Thai law is that it's always illegal, no matter what the circumstances, to pay for sex with a person under 18 years of age.  That's what I said in the post you quoted.
