"Big Joke" Starts Signature Campaign in Pattaya to Oust Anti-Corruption Commission

In Thailand, the suspended Deputy National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakparn, known by his nickname "Big Joke," has started a campaign in Pattaya to gather signatures calling for the dismissal of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). This campaign, which took place on May 22 at the J.A. Plus Hotel, accuses the NACC of corruption, unexplained wealth, and serious ethical breaches.

Surachet stated that this is the first time in Thai history that a petition of this kind has been made against an independent body, as outlined by Article 236 of the Constitution. He plans to submit the petition to the House Speaker, who will pass it on to the courts. A special committee will then be appointed to investigate these claims against the NACC.

As of May 22, Surachet has collected over 13,000 signatures. He is confident of reaching the required 20,000 signatures in the coming days. He denied any political agenda in his campaign, or any intent to retaliate against the NACC for its investigation into bribery allegations against him.

The NACC had previously decided to examine claims against Surachet and four other police officers regarding accusations of accepting bribes from a gambling website.

  • this guy is a straight  shooter   they have intimated him, shot at him, now nonsense claims he's somehow involved in gambling rackets, total BS IMO, he is fighting everything corrupt in Thai

  • If he was part of the NACC he was probably invited to take part in corrupt activity and refused to do so. As an independently wealthy man he doesn't need to make any money from corrupt activity wherea

  • Including the NACC and the proof of this is that very few end up in the clink. It’s a tool used to extort wealth from individuals through the threat of action against them and to subdue political foes

Yes, but denying it - let's see where that goes, remember he knows where all the bodies are.

What a joke, Joker.

The whole barrel is rotten, to the core.

the act alone of what he is doing is in itself a political agenda to retaliate against the NACC for investigating him. So how can he say that is not his purpose?

Also, was he not part of the NACC before? He is the pot calling the kettle black now? Why isn't he behind bars? Any normal person would have been arrested with the evidence they have and had to bail out of jail to still be walking around as a free man.

Any sources for your claim of the evidence they have? Maybe he knows a thing or two about the NACC we don't.

You investigate me, I investigate you, and it's not retaliation...

If this is not retaliatory, why not petition to investigate the Election Commission, another "independent body" and long overdue for scrutiny

I think so..but different issue all together now...trying to start a fire..for sure..

This guy has been sent to an inactive  post before and then worked his way up again. He has stepped on someone's toes again or come across something he shouldn't have, you think he would have learned from what has previously happened.

He may get a gold watch from the NACC after general rolie Prawit's result  🤔

I'd throw in the CC as well. But there's only so much he can do. Why not ask the same question of all the lawyers harassing Pita and co? The answer's obvious. Challenging the NACC, which is a great move, is hardly a career enhancing move, is it?

Seems the guy can do no right here on this forum. The cynics believe he's just "in it for the money", so to speak. Well, will he make anything out of this? Be cynical about your own police forces. They're just as bad. It's boring to read the same old repetitive "TIT what do you expect?" repeated over and over. Give the guy a break! Let's see what happens. He's been quiet for some time, as have the tabloids. So what's happening with the "case" against him? And his boss?

It's a den of thieves just stabbing each other in the back. In Thailand, unexplained wealth is just ill-gotten gains without a decent lie yet.

This is a good point.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the source of his wealth.. is it family money? Business interests?..

Thanks in advance..

There seems to be an automatic assumption by some that he is corrupt because

1. He is independently wealthy

2. He chose to join the police

Neither reason is valid

There have been a few complaints about him on this forum because he enforced the law regarding visa renewals which prevents foreigners from bribing immigration officials to renew visas or to give inappropriate visas.

It seems he's ok with them as long as he doesn't prevent their corrupt practices. I strongly suspect it is those corrupt people with a grudge against him for enforcing honesty by immigration who are posting negative comments about him and putting laughter emojis to those who support him

Family money, both his wife and himself come from wealthy families. His wife has stated that she wants him to leave the police. He joined the police as a vocation, not because he needed an income

There are absolutely no inherent obstacles standing in the way of bribing immigration or any other official in Thailand, This jokers "anti corruption" measures were limited to having immigration offices remove their tip boxes from the  prominent counter top positions they used to occupy.  Most tip boxes were simply moved under the counter temporarily,

I have no grudge against him personally, but for any on here  to actually  support him or claim he is some sort of angel displays a child like naivety and a laughter emoji is unfortunately the only appropriate response available at present,  Do these people also believe that politicians exist for the benefit of society ?  "to make a difference" ? judging my some of the gushing comments about "Pita" it would appear so.  I didn't realise such gullible souls still existed these days,  bless them.

World wide, very very few people become wealthy by being whiter than white, In Thailand nobody gets there without being as bent as a boomerang.Only an innocent child with severe learning difficulties would think otherwise.  How easily some people are sucked in by a carefully choreographed media  PR campaign  is actually quite concerning.  Not unlike white lab rats that have had there natural instincts bred out of them and display no fear of predators
