Offshore360 ...I see where you are coming from.. but to be honest I would prefer cold hard cash in the bank... but a decent idea none the less...

...only if "lifetime leases" are a thing.

You think that there is such a thing in Thailand?

oh gee....what happened to that great mantra of "invest" in Thailand only what you are prepared to lose.

I guess it works great on internet forums where you try to convince everyone about your great investment. Until your "wife" actually kicks you out.....amicably, of course.

Of course the sad emoji comes from exactly the people you’re referring to

Your life didn't work out in Thailand, so now you want to take everyone else down with you?

Take it easy, cowboy.

I honestly think he is or isn’t the only one that “things didn’t work out “.

Many can add to the experience.

But then no one will ever admit to it.

Best the OP get a competent attorney vs asking on a Internet forum.

If he can walk away he can retain an attorney.

Yes.. I can prove I paid for it with funds I bought into the country...

Yes we have the Chanote...

When we sorted the paperwork out at the land office I made sure my name was also put onto the paperwork...

I am sure (legally) I am entitled to 50% of the money when the land is sold... but my question has always been... can the wife just keep putting off selling it till I can't be bothered or die.. or can I stipulate a time frame... for example can I say OK, if the land is note sold within 1 year can I legally get her to pay me my half by re mortgaging or selling the land to the land bank or getting a loan using the land as collateral and she pays me out of that...

How did you get your name put on Chanote? Are you sure your on it as an owner or is it on as a leasee? Its highly irregular for a foreigner to own land with only a few exceptions.  If your truely on the Chanote you can list the property for sale yourself, no need to wait for her to list it. The difficulty will come if you actually sell it as she will need to sign off on the sale if she is on the chanote.

Sounds like you had a similar experience.

Maybe that's why nowadays he needs to slum it in Laos for a "retirement" visa

How about this?

How can you force someone to sell something that doesn't belong to you?

Why are you adopting such an aggressive attitude?      The OP certainly hasn't.
