Why is Trump Really Running for Office Again?
Data released by the Census Bureau today show that 2019 was a historic year for raising Americans’ living standards. Real median household income reached a record high, and poverty reached a record low. Improvements in income and poverty were the largest in over 50 years. Minority groups—including black, Hispanic and Asian Americans—experienced the largest gains. https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/articles/incomes-hit-record-high-poverty-reached-record-low-2019/ -

Must Read Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
The way it works is, you are expected to report ALL income you make outside (and/or inside) of Thailand. Pension income that is already taxed in your home country still counts towards your total income even if there is a Tax Treaty between your country and Thailand. However, Thailand wouldn't (legally) be allowed to tax that portion of your total income. They would then total all your income, subtract the "personal deduction" and tax you on the balance (at whatever rate). It's unlikely you will get any deductions for charity donations or medical expenses or anything else you would normally be able to deduct from your taxes back home. However, if you also have to do taxes back home on the same income and Thailand has charged you more than your home country, you can (in some countries at least) claim the difference as a credit on your home country's taxes. This is a link to the Government of Canada's list of Tax Treaties: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/programs/tax-policy/tax-treaties.html Most of the treaties are virtually identical and include clauses for things like pensions taxed in one country can't be taxed in the other. For the Phillipines: Pensions and Annuities 1. Pensions and annuities arising in a Contracting State and paid to a resident of the other Contracting State shall be taxable only in the Contracting State in which they arise. (Then some gibberish about "periodic pension payments".) For Thailand: Pensions 1. Pensions and other similar remuneration, whether they consist of periodic or non-periodic payments, for past employment, arising in a Contracting State and paid to a resident or the other Contracting State shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State. (Canada does not have, nor is negotiating a tax treaty with Cambodia so technically you could be fully taxed on all your income in your home country and in Cambodia.) Also note: Tax treaties do NOT confer ANY "rights" to the person being taxed. "No Taxation without Representation" is an "ideal" and "principle" - not a law. -

So they want us to do 90 day reports, do TM30's, do TM6's, do yearly extensions, do reentry permits, pay farang fees at parks, get COR's for drivers licenses, not allow us to own property, and in the news recently they want to create a farang tax on buying and selling real estate? And now they want to tax us on our WorldWide income, offering nothing in return for that money?! Give us land ownership, Permanent Residency, no more TM47/TM30/COR's/TM6/Etc., make farang pricing illegal, treat us like tax paying Thai citizens and then maybe being taxed on WorldWide income might make sense. -

Thailand Mourns Loss of Carabao Rock Legend Ko Carabao
I saw Carabao live a few times back in the 1980s, loved those concerts, loved their music. Also one night in the late 1980s I was drinking in a Bangkok rock pub and drummer Ko and bass player Ott from Carabao were there jamming with some other band. I always chatted with the guys when I had a chance and found them all to be friendly guys, especially Lek Carabao. Actually, over the years I've found the Thai musicians are about the only Thai men that I genuinely like, they don't have that attitude thing that every other Thai male seems to have. -

White House Condemns Tucker Carlson’s Interview with Holocaust Denier
Sadly, and it is wrong, but because it happened in Africa, was very largely an internal "Belgian" affair, and was managed and sorted by Belgium. It was not as well documented, and did not require, no attract, a major, unprecedented international military and political alliance to defeat the regime which imposed it. Belgians colonial activity was brutal, savage, but not based upon any political, social or really racial creed, it was simply brutally exploitative. None of which excuses it, or justified modern day holocaust denial.- 1

Over the years
Nothing to do with taxation. I've always used the 800/400K funds in the bank method using a Fixed Term Deposit account. Years ago, they enquired about my income. Their mindset was by providing funds in an FTD account, how did I manage to maintain my stay in Thailand and the suspicion of working illegally. Since then, I've always had the bank put details of both the Savings and FCD accounts on the letter. FTD for Immigration purposes, Savings account for expenditures. -

Fire Breaks Out in Wedding Shop Next to Popular Restaurant in Chanthaburi
Picture from the scene A fire broke out on the morning of September 8, in a wedding clothing hire shop next to the well-known "Sewana" restaurant, alarming local residents and local business owners. Firefighters and rescue teams, swiftly arrived on the scene and worked to control the fire, which was extinguished in approximately 90 minutes. Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke rising from the back of the shops and restaurant, sparking concern about the potential for the fire to spread to nearby businesses and residential areas. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported and authorities have been able to prevent the fire spreading to other businesses, but adjoining premises suffered heat and smoke damage. The area surrounding the restaurant has been cordoned off, and residents are urged to avoid the affected zone to allow emergency teams to work without obstruction. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the cost of the damage is being assessed. -- 2024-09-08 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe
