The city of Pattaya has halted the operations of nine beach umbrella vendors following claims of unfair treatment towards tourists during a recent holiday in Thailand.

Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, Wuttisak Rermkijakarn, stated that the action was taken after receiving several complaints from tourists about unfair practices by these vendors, especially during Thailand's recent three-day holiday period.

Of the nine vendors involved, eight are first-time offenders and have been ordered to stop their operations for two weeks, from July 30 to August 15, 2024. One vendor, found guilty for the second time, has been suspended for two months, from July 30 to October 1, 2024.

Wuttisak warned that vendors who violate the city's regulations for the third time will have their licenses permanently revoked.

Wuttisak emphasized that beach umbrellas are crucial for providing comfort to tourists. He urged all vendors to comply with the city's rules, which include an annual city fee of 750 baht and treating tourists with respect to promote positive experiences and good word-of-mouth.

The city of Pattaya has established guidelines for umbrella operations, requiring vendors to have one day off per month. During the off-peak season, they have to take two days off per month to maintain the beach's natural allure.

Wuttisak encouraged anyone facing unfair treatment from beach vendors to report their complaints to Call Center 1337 or through the Pattaya City Mayor's official Facebook page. All complaints will be investigated by the city and if found valid, suitable action will be taken.

The specific ways in which the vendors were exploiting tourists have not been disclosed to the public or the media, reported by The Pattaya News.

Well, we don't know what they did, but they'd better watch out or tourists will complain about.... what? there are so many ways to treat tourists "unfairly"

Shady umbrella vendors.

ha ha yes very good   pity the shady trees are massacred on a regular basis.

What does it mean to be "suspended"? Your umbrellas are removed during the penalty period or you get a different person- child, spouse,...- to collect the money each day?

For what? One chair or one beach or what?

And how much do they have to pay under the table?

these shady operators cover a wide area .... they should not tarnish Pattaya's pristine world class famous family #1 resort reputation.
