Thai Boy Allegedly Shoots Himself While Playing With Firearm

A teenage boy from Phattalung, a southern province in Thailand, apparently shot himself in the face in a freak accident while toying with a gun. However, his father thinks otherwise, suspecting foul play and an attack on his son.

The incident was reported yesterday, August 12, around 4.20 am, triggering a quick response by the police from Kong Ra Police Station. The boy, now a patient at Kong Ra Hospital, got to the hospital before the police arrived after sustaining a serious gunshot wound to his cheek.

At the scene, investigators discovered blood splatters inside and outside the wooden hut where the incident occurred. Statements from other teens present revealed that the 14-year-old, identified as A, and seven of his friends were at the hut following a birthday party elsewhere.

According to Bee, a female friend, the gunshot was heard around 4 am as everyone was busy on their phones. That's when they found A with a gunshot wound. They rushed him to the hospital on their motorcycles and notified the police about the incident.

Bee mentioned that she was unsure who the gun belonged to and added that only A and another male friend, Moo, had handled it. A's four male friends were not at the scene when the police arrived, but will be called in for questioning later as the police suspect A accidentally shot himself.

A's mother told Channel 3 that the hospital had contacted her about her son's urgent need for surgery to remove the bullet. She said A had borrowed 40 baht from her the previous night and had planned to return home as soon as it stopped raining, but he didn't come home.

However, A's father doesn't buy the accidental shooting hypothesis. He noted multiple gunshot wounds in the same area and missing teeth on his son's face, signaling repeated gunfire and physical assault.

According to Channel 3 report, it took the medical team nearly five hours to extract the bullet from A's face. A's condition remains critical.

oh dear '    very sad indeed.  A's father may be right in his assumption.  I certainly hope and prey that A makes a good recovery from this tragic event no matter how it happened.

very sad for A....

14yrs old ...

And what if the gun was another of those illegal firearms most thai's have at home ?

Still partying at 4am.... parental guidance was seriously lacking.

Should have been home in bed...

Why was the gun not locked away ???

Several adults need to be charged here. The owner of the gun obviously for failing to keep it away from children. But also the parents of the kids for allowing them to be in a place awake at 4 am without supervision. Reckless at the least.

Possible one of those 'home-made ' firearms.

And now the parents looking for someone to blame except themselves.

A 14-year-old, and his friends, who are obviously of similar age, out clowning about without parental oversight at 4am in the morning, when they should be in bed.

They had a gun which should be under lock and key away from them.

It's as bad where I live, 7-year-olds out on 125 cc motorbikes, absolutely clueless and wobbling all over the road carrying passengers, not a safety helmet in sight, and then the parents scream when there is an avoidable accident that takes place.

These people don't parent their kids, they pander to them, hence the amount of child-adult males in Thai society unable to keep their emotions in check in adulthood.

If that is the case I can't imagine the little cherub accidentally shot himself in the face multiple times........big question now is..... who are their father's....... and how does the 'victim's' father rank in the order of things.

All with phones and motorcycles.

Very low power ammunition for the bullet(s) to lodge in his cheek.

As usual, a lot more to this story than reported.
