That's because you didn't work a day in your life unlike some of of us

I liken you to that UK & US sitcom with the Gallaghers ,what was the name of it

All just a free life ,no work ,no worries ,what a great life you have had and good on you if you got away with it

Meanwhile many of us are slaving away forced to work jobs mopping floors !!!!!

Wrong, I have always worked which is why I get 3 pensions, I've never been unemployed nor have I asked for or received any benefits.

Regularly Drinking Alcohol After 60 Linked to Early Death   Gamma?   Guess what? Doing anything regularly, or not at all, will be linked to one's death because we will all definite

  • So in your mind you have to drink to have fun? Maybe (probably) a toke would do the same.

Is there really a thing as standard, considering varied glass sizes & alcohol content.

A standard exists where a country's government has defined a standard and such standard is valid for that country.

From Korat Kiwi, we know that New Zealand has defined a standard and that this standard means a drink containing 10 mg of alcohol. ( I thnk that should read 10 mL (millilitres), not 10 mg)

Now, let me see how many mL of alcohol I drank yesterday.

With dinner, a can (500 mL) of beer with 5,2% ABV (alcohol by volume)

At bedtime, a glass (125 mL) of wine with 13% ABV,

That makes it (500 × 5.2% + 125 × 13%) = 42.25 mL of pure alcohol = 4.2 UK and New Zealand units.

Good gracious! I am doomed! More than double the recommended average limit per day by the UK's National Health Service. Well, there are five more days to work on the average for this week.

I think it is called life experience.

Your beneficiary will at least have the money from the returns , try and put them in a chang box for receiving the maximum payment.

I received a blood test recently and the doctor mentioned that I have a high FG reading of 402 .

The doctor then said it seems you are drinking too much beer.

I almost asked if she new if it was chang or leo i was drinking but changed my mind .

But the good female doctor was correct in my case .

I am now down to one or two a day instead of 5 or 6 bottles a day.

I will take a new test in a month or so and find out if things have improved.

If you die AFTER 60, I hardly see that as an  early death.

Until you're after 60. Then it will feel like an early death.

Depends how old you are and how long you have to  80-85

If your over 75 keep drinking

Wouldn't it be a high AST or ALT liver blood count though ?

lipid  HDL chol   41

lipid TG               404

lipid cholesterol 213,1

LDL cal                91

Glucose              101

That was my result , the main reason for the test was for the glucose which proved OK.

I am 71 years old

Disability pension is great if you can get it

Bad back ?? Can't work ?

And there nothing wrong with that !

I remember about 10 years ago Australia changed its disability pension laws that anyone overseas cannot get it unless they are deemed permanent disabled which sent a lot of expats back to Australia who had "bad backs '

Nah  good on ya mate 👍

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Funny how folk jump to conclusions. Am perfectly able bodied and have always paid my own way. Will still work in the 'real world' on occasion like a trouper but got out of the rat race looong ago when I realised giving all my time to the system wasn't for me. Won't get a big boomer-style pension as a result, but also got to live a life that your average Joe would only dream of and would do it all again.

As for the drinking thing, still say do what you want to do. Stress will kill you just as easily and, again, we are all doomed anyway.

I’m not so worried about dying early as getting old early.

Amen. Giving up things you enjoy, so that you can live a few extra years, in a wheelchair and a drool bag...... What's wrong with this picture?

Well, tell me what is actually good with alchohol the older you get? As said, I enjoy moderate consumption of quality alchohol, but seriously, what I see around, those who drink regularly, is not who I want to be.

Frequently drinking comes with side effects, and also a time consuming thief.

A happy Lifestyle as you see it, might give you 10 years in wheelchair drowling instead of 3. Think about it?

My father at 85, still driving car, walking 5km every second day, swimming, and still take his sports test every year, and have done since he was in army.

I have seen my father drunk once in my lifetime. He enjoy a glass now and then, but are not a regular drinker. So I guess I'm a product of my environment.

Doesn't mean I will be same as him, but who knows

I wasn't defending frequent drinking. I was referring to this part of the study:

Quote

More moderate drinking habits were also linked to an increased risk of early death and dying from cancer, and even just averaging about one drink or less daily was associated with an 11% higher risk of dying from cancer

So, why would I give up my occasional glass of fine wine to wash down the escargot -- because some study says all drinking is bad?  Recently, all the rage was a few glasses of red wine a day improves longevity. Well, that has apparently been reversed by some later studies. Just like, it used to be dangerous to drink coffee -- but now, it's almost required for better health. So, I don't put too much faith in studies -- most are never fair and balanced, nor sufficiently peer reviewed.

Anyway, studies, like longevity, are not always a positive thing. Let's drink to that, shall we?

I trust my experience more than anything else. If I had a long night out on Saturday, I still feel it when working out the next week.

I'm reduced, and easy to measure.

What I do not understand with mony Europeens, is when going for holiday, drinking is the main ingredient of a great holiday, so when back from holiday, they are not refreshed, they actually could need another holiday.

Anyway, I had my time partying and enjoyed wild parties traveling the world as an extreme sport athlete, actor and stunt man, but we had focus on the job first then party your hearth out after.

Same with offshore work, when we arrived onshore, we had a great party, but the older I got, the less I drink. Not because of studies, but because of experience.

It is not good for me, simple as that. Not even enjoy a joint, extasy or a line, even it can make life more fun, it is just common sense.
