Pheu Thai Party says no Cabinet seats for Palang Pracharath MPs

Pheu Thai Party MPs met yesterday and agreed to remove members of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) from the new Cabinet.

 

Former Pheu Thai Party Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai recently revealed that the new Cabinet would be established by the end of August, now only three days away.

 

Phumtham disclosed that some former coalition parties have already submitted the names of members who wish to secure seats in the Cabinet, while others have not done so due to various issues.

 

The party with an issue is suspected to be the PPRP, as Prawit Wongsuwan announced that he would not propose leading member Thamanat Prompow for the new Cabinet list.

 

This announcement by the party leader prompted Thamanat to step forward and declare his independence. Thamanat stated that he would leave the PPRP but emphasised that he had no disputes with any members. He mentioned that he had served one person in the party for too long and it was time for him to move on.

 

 

 

 

In addition to Thamanat, another 26 PPRP MPs decided to leave the party to align themselves with him.

 

This separation sparked rumours that PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra would not include members from Prawit’s faction in her new Cabinet but this information had not been confirmed until yesterday, August 27.

 

MPs from the Pheu Thai Party held a meeting about new Cabinet members at Shinawatra 3 Tower before holding a press conference an hour later. The Secretary-General of the party, Sorrawong Thienthong, announced that the party’s executive committee had voted not to join the government with the PPRP.

 

Sorrawong stated that he could not yet confirm the names of the Cabinet members but the Pheu Thai Party would hold discussions with Thamanat and other MPs in his group, as these MPs have always cooperated with the Pheu Thai Party.

 

According to Sorrawong, there will also be discussions with MPs from the Democrat Party, who were former members of opposition parties, to invite them to join the coalition government.

  I wouldn't go that far but - quite honestly - these past few months have been a stunning reversal in Thailand politics.

 

  Had someone written a movie script 18 months ago about Thaksin triumphantly returning to Thailand, incarceration free, and once again regaining the leadership of Thailand?  Mental.

The purge is almost but complete

I wish they would get more retribution but realistically that’s not going to happen and he will go the same way of most coup leaders in Thailand to a nice retirement. Let’s just focus on the positives and happy that Thailand are finally rid of them Dino generals and welcome the 2nd golden coming of Khun Thaksin.

I believe that Palang Parcharat had 40 MPs in total,  if 27 have left Prawit only has 13 MPs left.  That looks like the end of the coup party to me!

You are sadly mistaken. Thailand is in no way "rid of them Dino generals .... ".  Indeed the chances of a coup before the next election has just gone up a notch.

Indeed, before the 2023 General Election, General Prawit made it clear that only he had the knowledge of the power structures that effectively run the kingdom.

At that time, he warned that any government without his leadership was likely to experience difficulty. In particular, he warned that there were still people in power who viewed a coup d’état as an effective means to an end.

Little fatty's power was determined by the influence he wielded over the regular promotions/to job reshuffles in the army. If that has gone he is now little more than a reliable chap to ask the time!

You seem to forget that was under another kingpin. The new guy and Thakin have been pals forever. Also puppetmaster Prem finally hit his expiry date. These tin pot generals were never much without him

He is now isolated. Tu and Anupong are no longer in politics. Kingmaker is long gone. Army units have been re-located strategically. Thaksin has abandoned his far left policies and move to the center. The royalists and elites will need his party to stop the left progressive party. Coup is not in this equation. This I think is the state of play for near future.
