A transgender monk, hallucinating after using crystal meth, wandered around the temple, creating confusion and refusing a drug test. The monk claimed he wanted to testify in court and avoided the test for over three hours. Finally, a urine test showed positive results for drugs, leading to a chaotic disrobing.

On September 19, 2014, Pol. Lt. Pansarn Krongsit, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, Chonburi Province, received a report of a monk behaving erratically at Wat Bun Kanchanaram in Nongprue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District.

Upon investigation, they identified the monk as Phra Thirathawin, nicknamed Thammathipo, a transgender.

He admitted to being under the influence of crystal meth and made incoherent claims, repeatedly stating he wanted to go to court with evidence of homework forgery.

When officers and reporters attempted to assist, he confessed to using crystal meth earlier that day, which had been provided by a temple boy with whom he had a romantic relationship. Though police requested a drug test, Phra Thirathawin insisted on testifying in court, causing confusion.

After three hours of negotiation, he finally agreed to a urine test, which turned up positive. He was then defrocked with the help of the temple abbot and handed over to legal authorities for further action.

I'm guessing they are female to male transgender.

Usually, when they speak of transgender monks in Thailand it tends to be more like this:

A monk on drugs with a shiny smartphone desiring to be another gender and in a romantic relationship is not a monk, surely?

They really should reconsider who they choose to wear saffron.

A temple boy ?? oh dear. What a bummer.

Why wasn't the Temple Abbott able to manage this situation without the involvement of the police ?

Monks behaving badly, again, .........:coffee1: ...Oh well it keeps us entertained.

We need Jingthing to explain what's going on here.

Think any monk found to have misbehaved like this should be forced to have some shameful tattoo on his forehead, so he can not leave one monestry and go to another

So what did he have under the frock?

Rooster or a can’t?

Yes, there should be some kind of competency test.  but unfortunately temples will take almost anyone, mainly because when they ordain, there's normally a huge party thrown by the relatives that bring in mucho money for the temple.

Well to their credit they usually take the robes off them when wrongdoing is proven.....but on occasion the whole barrel is spoiled.

I have 2 brother in laws monks, the eldest one is 64 yo and is a bit of a down and outer so at least he has friends and people to take care of him. The other one is 55 yo and only went to Buddha after his girl friend died. Her father demanded that my brother in law must go to Buddha even though he gave up a lucrative business to do so. The whole charade is corrupt and the senior monks live lives that are simply beyond their means. To my way of thinking many monks are no better than 20 baht toe rags. By the way if you ever get a chance listen to the Dali Lamas take on Thai Buddhism. When asked about his views on Thai Buddhism he politely replied " next question please".

When I was a monk at a temple in Lopburi, we monks lived in simple concrete one room huts with a bath attached at the rear.  The abbot and his right hand man lived in beautiful dwellings with at least 3 rooms.  Tile floors and even a kitchenette, I always thought that was a little much..
