I don't understand what all the hoo-hah is about, this stuff happens all the time.

Sure, there's a lot of deaths but Every life is valuable.

Some of the comments are over the top, rediculous, you all know how the systems work here in Thailand.

The Thai judiciary is not fit for purpose a very sad day for all people murdered or killed yet those responsible get away due to an antiquated law . The RedBull guy will end up walking away as a freeman in the not so distant future !

I seem to recall Taksin Shinawatra being tried, convicted and sentenced in absentia for crimes he allegedly committed in Thailand. Strange how if you're seen as a threat by the military such trials can take place but if you're actually in the military they can't.

Thailand should be kicked off the UN for this. Infact they should never have been let in. I hope Trump pulls out of the un and gets a grip of Nato.

Thailand is one of Trump's "$hithoIe countries" so don't hold your breath

More great news coming from Thailand showing what sort of Government Thais have and how those in power can get away with things.   Red Bull story will be the same, because the legal process here is too old and corrupted.  The Police cannot even arrest someone suspected of a crime - unless the evidence is overwhelming and in front of them - they have to get a warrant first. The legal system here is too complex and inefficient - perfect for those that want the ability to get away with things whenever needed.

Giving Thailand a seat in the Human Rights is just another failure of the UN, they should be ashamed of themselves.

No country should have a statute of limitations on murder. This is premeditated obstructive delay and  is barbaric.

When the murderers return to Thailand after leaving until the statute expired, they'd better stay away from the south of Thailand.

There are seems to be the route with Thailand leader who has funds to use this statue.  Many of red bull charges were dropped using this, so recently Thaksin, the former Mayor of Pattaya who allowed the Condo to be build was charged with brides but his brother appointed next mayor while former Mayor served as a MP for the country.

They stretch and stretch it out so when it came time ??? he left the country just in case, the same decision Statue of Limitation there is a pattern?😂

State sanctioned murder - nothing else. They've been dragging many, many feet for 20 years, countless envelopes must have moved over and below the tables and not a single responsible would do something about it.

Statutory limits on murder? Just hope that those responsible will have endless sleepless nights and one or the other might be having some survival difficulties if some of the relatives might take matters into their own hands now. Begin of an anarchistic response is possible and could have been avoided if those responsible would have been brought to justice. 20 years is, quite obviously, not enough - depending on crime!

I dont know of any other country that has a statute of limitations on murder.......

Murder is the one crime that has no statute of limitations in any USA state.....Even if the case is 50 years old they will still charge someone...

Some countries do. Japan only abolished theirs in 2010.

Meanwhile, it seems that every day you hear about the insurgents in this area killing innocent Thai citizens. Have they been brought to justice.

They wanted a headline, and an appearance they were doing something about 78 people who were deliberately killed. They could have brought this case anytime in the last twenty year, but no. Now they can say .... We Tried, but time ran out.

The real question; who were they trying to convince they were doing something?

Seems like yesterday, my how time flies, its just disgusting corruption , the Red bull Brat will walk free, the Burmese two will serve their time for a crime that it is extremely unlikely that they were anywhere near, the cctv footage of the mafia bosses son running away from the scene who then arrives in Bangkok with an alibi and Dna on the murder weapon that did not match the B2, its a joke, but in this country it's been the norm for years ,not much different in many other countries including NZ, Arthur Allen Thomas was set up by the police who were later found to have planted bullet cartridges at the scene he spent years in jail b4 being pardoned.

You will hear a lot of crying if he does.  Needs to do this and pull out of the Climate Change hoax.  Expose it for what it is.

He has to do a couple of other things first - stay out of jail and get elected!

Tak Bai, very dangerous place, lots of terrorism in the region.

Glad I don't live down there.

Worked across the border, around 40km away, Kota Bharu for a few years, unfriendly people there to, glad to get out of that horrible place.

My recollections of that area are rather different, albeit that was from the 90's when I was working at a construction project in Kelantan for about 7 years. I would travel to Tak Bai on many weekends to stay at the Tak Bai Lagoon Resort and found the location and the people to be rather peaceful. The subsequent happenings obviously had an impact on the security in the area.

I understand that compensation of Bt7.5m was paid to the families for each death and lower amounts for those injured. Goes without saying that no level of compensation would cover for such a loss, especially given the horrific nature of the event. As for the lack of accountability..........he topic comments cover that aspect.

I found the people in Kota Baru wonderful. I guess it depends how you approach and interact with  people. It's you, not 'the people'.

Most people aren't perfect "like you" though.

I love me,who do you love?

but behind the façade there are some ugly elements to Thai society rivalling the worst of corruption and depravity to be found in the region.

it's always been there, but some falangs refused to say anything negative about LOS or chose to look the other way because it would ruin their glossy image of their retirement home

I would not want to wander to close to a police station or Army headquarters for the next few years in the Deep South.

Going to be a lot explosions in the next few years.
