Sounds like the "Red Bull" incident that allegedly killed a cop at a checkpoint.

But unlikely this foreigner will be able to escape the country until statue of limitations runs out, nor be able to corrupt police investigators to the extent charges can't be filed in an absentia trial.

Whats the statue of limitations for these offences, 5yrs ?

Sigh.
They don't suddenly spring from the side of the road from a camouflaged hiding spot. Not for years now.

But they will try to block slow-moving vehicles that ignore the officer's instructions.

Alcohol checkpoints are strictly regulated now. They MUST have lights, signs, traffic cones, officers to direct vehicles for secondary inspection, officers to do secondary inspections (i.e. breathalyzer tests), officers to write tickets, officers to detain individuals if required (and a prisoner transport vehicle) and officers to persue anyone that tries to flee the checkpoint, as well as a senior officer in charge.
(If I recall, the rules are there has to be 10 regular police and 1 officer minimum per checkpoint.)

And they have to have tables/chairs/computers where the tickets are written as well as wifi CCTV so they can be monitored from the main police station.

Which also means they have to be located in a decent area where they can set all that up.

And those rules came into effect what, 4 years ago now ?

But the Pattaya police chief back then didn't like the new rules so they just stopped doing alcohol checkpoints for a long time.
Now it seems they do them - rarely.

Assuming you actually want to know:

The Statute of Limitations for offenses punishable by (death, life imprisonment or sentences exceeding 20 years) is 20 years (in Thailand).
For offenses punishable by sentences between 7-20 years, the Limitation is 15 years.
For offenses punishable by 1-7 years, the Limitation is 10 years.

Incident occurred 3 September 2012.

The statute of limitations on the speeding charge expired in September 2013, and on the fleeing the scene of an accident charge in September 2017. The statute of limitations for the reckless driving causing death charge will expire in 2027. So 2012-2027 or 15 years.

Yes, that seems to fit the scenario..... the prior alcohol stops were proving very lucrative....although did little to stop drunks driving home, simply lightened the load.

And some simply say, 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do'!

This isn't Rome, far from it, it's more like one of the last kingdoms of the barbarians.

The cops literally throw themselves out in front of you to make you stop.

I understand it is the law here and the driver will be charged and convicted. But if they did that in a 1st world country they would be sued and lose in a courtroom for ths type of action.

I do not know anywhere in the world that takes this type of action merely to check if you are legal to drive.

I am not saying this is what happened in this instance, but i have seen it happen many many times in Thailand.

Well you haven't been to Australia in last 20+ years...😜

This More Run should be sent to the Big House for 10 years.  Then black listed and deported.  Plus, he and his family should pay the injured officer millions in Thai Baht to cover his medical expenses.

Look at me...look at me....I ride my big bike without shirts so all the hot LBs can see me.  Mr. Attention Seeker will have a fun time in prison.

I would highly recommend the super luxurious resort - IDC.  I hear it is a 5 star rated resort.

Many farangs coming here, late twenties early thirties, come here and strongly believe that anything goes on the streets here. From what they have seen and heard.... Any speed is fine, red lights are just a suggestion, adhered to by only by the weak ones...

And that it is highly possible to run through a checkpoint, and police will not dare pursue.

And those are the ones the dangerous on the roads, and sometimes do not make it back home...

This one will make it back home, but with a very sorry face....

Every  F-ing day here in Patts, we deal with these more runs.  They rev their engines on Buakhao to impress the babes, who by the way think that when they make noise like that, it is a sign of a small penis.  I hate those folks who drive around with their shirts off, showing the Roids and trying to impress ladies here, when they could care less how roided and cut you are.

“minor brain bleed”

Any kind of brain bleed doesn’t sound very minor.

It's a medical term. I assume you've never been to medical school. There is a whole spectrum of injuries that fall in that category, such as a ruptured aneurism, stroke, subdural hematoma etc. Those  can easily kill. So there is indeed such thing as a minor symptomless brain bleed. Calling it a minor brain bleed does not mean it isn't serious, it only means that it is not life threatening.

This is the only country I've  been to where the police don't actively patrol  the roads and rely on 'checkpoints'.

Except they do actively patrol the roads. Numerous highway police stations in my area and often see highway police cars (yellow and burgundy) and occasionally motorcycles (white). Unfortunately they usually only seem to stop overloaded pickups.

These snap "Tea Money grabs" are illegal but they keep happening.  This will come down to a massive shakedown  for the German and his family.  I've had several run ins  over the years. Some I put my hands up and pay if I'm guilt but if innocent I will fight my corner even for one Setang.

Oh, a Braveheart:cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

No. But similar to when Thai Red Bull heir Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya ran police checkpoint and hit police officer who died.

So that Amphibeous fugitive was finally brought to justice?

Hit the cop with motorbike and ran into the forest.

Then into the sea.

Looks like Thai police's arm was longer than he predicted

Did they also seize his James Bond like vehicle(land-water 2 way mode)  he used for run?

I can’t imagine what beatings he may incur possibly by the cops and prison guards during his lengthy lock up before his deportation
