Hi, Can anyone recommend an insurance company that's accepted at Pattaya City Hospital? 

 

The insurance company I have now has an approved hospital list and PCH isn't on their list, they only want me to use the expensive places, I don't have any medical issues so the idea of paying big money for small issues is a joke. 

 

Any input is appreciated.

If you have insurance, then the company will foot the bill, so why you want to use a lower grade hospital instead?

Don’t waste your time with PCH.

 

Go to BPH.  Faster, better service etc

For govt hospitals they don't seem to deal with insurance companies, you can probably pay first and claim back from insurer

I think because the insurance most likely won't cover the entire bill at the expensive hospital. If doctor charge is 1,100b Nurse fees another 300b plus meds another 2000, and your insurance only covers 1500b OPD you are on the hook for the balance. Government hospital bill would likely be less.

Well, with a limit on the insurance coverage, the expensive hospitals will max out my coverage pretty fast. I had a friend involved in a motorbike accident and spent one night in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for observation, cost him 100,000 baht.

For a virus and other minor things just go to one of the many clinics around town.

Insurance companies don't pay the same rates as us suckers who stagger in off the street.

Correct, only that insurance companies pay much higher rates than us suckers.

Hence, why if you request a quote from a hospital, they ask if you have insurance or not. If you have insurance, the price will be a multiple.

I found most clinics to be a waste of time for minor things.  They always prescribe antibiotics and a bunch of other things whether I needed them or not.  Go in for a stubbed toe and they will still prescribe antibiotics.  Better off self-prescribing.  I used to be against that until I went to clinics in Thailand a few times and concluded they were just going to sell me a bunch of meds I don't need every single time.

But you might need antibiotics for a stubbed toe. Depends. Been some horror stories about Infections in Thailand. If I cut myself, I run for the alcohol and my tube of Fucidin and a band-aid or bandage. Yes, might need pills as well. 'Course, any pharmacy can fix you up. I don't necessarily recommend self-diagnosis.

 

Over time, you develop an instinct about when you'd best go to a clinic and when a hospital.
