billd766 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I am 80 years old. I was born in 1944. Have reached this age, without taking any advice from ANY "experts" so far, I have no reason to change my life style. I am NOT an expert on anyone but me, nor would I have the audacity to "advise" anybody on what they should or shouldn't eat. What I would suggest is that people should possibly eat a little less and perhaps exercise a little more. I wish I had when I was younger. Most of these fads come along every so often. Some people take notice of them, but the majority just ignore them and carry on as normal. 1

Nothing to do with her falling asleep on the job of course. No, it was everyone else's fault. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-56450997 Using the victim narrative was so predictable. 😆

No, the image was taken from social media. It wasn't a BBC original. Why the heck they published it I've no idea. Look at the quality of the image. It's a complete mess. 1

Saying "Its a complete mess" about this Labour MP is not a very nice thing to say but it is probably what most people think.

Drumbuie Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Proper porridge - brose - is made with stone ground pinhead oatmeal, hot water, a pinch of salt and a wee pat of butter. Basically a hot oatcake. Anything else - particularly sugar - is an abomination. 😂 1

Also, is it true that haggis is best served slow, left arm over? 1
GinBoy2 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Now I'm totally confused. Is porridge different to what North Americans would call oatmeal? I've always believed oatmeal was one of the healthiest breakfasts ....and it hasn't killed me in the past six decades! 1

Some people think granola and muesli is healthy. It isn't if it is heavily sweetened with high fructose sweeteners and dosed with additives. Correct proper porridge is cooked from raw oatmeal, water, and a touch of salt, add milk or cream to taste.

High glycemic index foods will induce insulin resistance in anyone regardless of genetics. High glycemic index foods did not form a substantial part of people’s diets prior to the the uptake of processed foods and the introduction processed products like corn syrup into the nation’s diet. If you were in Thailand you would be able to observe the very same increase in obesity as processed and high glycemic index foods become an increasing part of the local diet. But isn't rice a high glycemic food? So, Thailand should have always been a obese nation if that's the case. Also the definition of obese has dramatically changed over the years. being slightly overweight is now classed as obese.
Pompeygeezer Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Water, fruit, and veg is all you can eat and drink nowadays according to the experts. JESUS! I think I'd rather take my chances with so called unhealthy food. 1 1 1

Take a look t photos of kds in the 1950's.... no fat ones. Simples. There were no laptops, tablets or internet enabled mobile phones, and kids didn't sit in their rooms bullying each other on social media or looking a porn. They were outside doing physical stuff. Also, no convenience stores choka with fat and sugar filled snack foods. I blame bad parenting for allowing kids to stay in their room on the vile devices. I had a friend that actually served meals to her brat in his room so he didn't have to leave the computer for 15 minutes to eat meals.

Kids used to hang around on the streets , hanging around doing nothing standing next to phone boxes . One would take a few cigarettes from a parent , another would take some alcohol and the kids would be hanging around the streets drinking and smoking , and they would look for ways to earn a bit of money, which was often theft . One would also know how to hot wire motorbikes . Then they would be fighting with the other kids from other areas . Before you know it, you have a drinking , smoking thieving street kid who gets into fights and is out of control . 1
