Fewer Chinese package tours in pattaya?

Featured Replies

Seems there are fewer Chinese package tours this year in pattaya? Have they moved elsewhere in Thailand or are Chinese numbers down this year to Thailand?

Looks like they will be 50% up on last year but still significantly down compared to the 2019 peak. 6.2 million year to date November compared to 11.0 million in 2019.

Either way, seems to be well compensated by their Russian comrades. They are swarming.

The Chinese heard the Walking Street signs got removed....So no need to come to Pattaya for Walking Street photo Ops...

Maybe more Russians, they seem to be everywhere

Simply an economic downturn in China, very likely limiting numbers from the package tour group segment.....like Arnie, they will be back.

If you lived near the Imagine 79 Chinese show on Thepprasit Soi 8 you wouldn't think there were fewer Chinese coaches in town.... 😞

The percentage of independent Chines travelers has been growing for years. TAT: ANF refuses to recognize them, however.

Pre covid it was fun to watch the Chinese groups following the flag as they snaked up walking street in the famous red light distric part of the zero dollar tour they were on...

Post covid not so much

Came back from Pattaya Nov 19 after two weeks.

Not seen a single bus stopping on beach rd. in the early morning unloading Chinese who walk over to the waiting speed boats to Ko(h) La(r)n.

Not seen columns of buses with Chinese going down through Naklua rd Soi 18 to the Centara or other hotels.

Always seen Indian men in groups of 3 up walking down Soi 8

They have whole hotels to their own.

For me they were "everywhere".

For me it's the Indians who fill up for the Chinese.

Sure it was early before high season and totally subjective but I think it really had much less Chinese tour groups.

Just realized: that stopping on Beach rd and unloading to speed boats on the beach has been forbidden as far as I remember  All at Bali Hai now?

But still much less of the typical buses seen.

The beach operators used to get a lot of business from those Chinese who didn't fancy going parasailing. The tour companies pre-paid for the chairs plus a meal and a bottle of water. Various beach road sellers are missing out too.

They are all over the place I think.  Bali Hi full of them many buses everywhere and the buffet places in and near Naklua have many in the evenings.

I do agree more younger Chinese are traveling not on the tours.  Old man with wives who have short Beatle type haircuts and are always yelling at their husbands seem to be on the tours.

I agree. Less Chinese tour groups, but more independent Chinese travelers and the Indians have definitely increased and become the new cheap group tourists. It’s going to get scary when they both increase their bus tours.
