The only reason Thailand would get it is Red Bull pushing for it on their behalf.

The route around chatuchak has at least got half decent transport links for people to get there other than by car as the roads will be totally screwed up...

It's a waste of billions of Baht. Also, Bangkok companies and shops will have to declare a holiday for 2 or 3 days in advance plus on the race day, so they will suffer financially.

Can't see Thailand getting a GP especially if they propose yet another boring street circuit. Madrid has just been announced as the new venue for the Spanish GP from 2026 and is yet another street circuit.

The Melbourne is not strictly a street circuit as although it is close to city it is held in Albert Park which  is a dedicated race track within the park. It was built back in the 50's or 60's and many races have been held there over the years.

Wonderful plan. Bangkok can use some more noise, pollution and safety issues.

No - as an ex-resident of Melbourne - I can tell you that you are wrong.

Apart from 2 weeks prior to the race, and 1 week after - when the stands, commercial areas and track barriers are erected and dismantled - these roads are public roads, and can be travelled by anyone. I have used these roads many times.

Several bickering, name calling posts have been removed. Discuss the topic, not each other or I am happy to start giving time outs if it continues.

Its been touted for many years .. Birabongse Bhanudej designed a street race around rattotaksin island in the 50s. The route that others are posted is banned - there was a law passed in 2013 banning any such streetrace around the historic sites of Bangkok.

I dont know why its suggested, it seems that Phua Thai PM's are keen to push the idea but are unaware of the laws - this may be one reasons for the chattujack proposal. Its an interesting subject with a long history, there should be a wiki page that can be referred and added too every time some politician comes up with the latest idea. Bottom line is, how much cash would it really generate and how much needs to be laid out and wether or not that should be spent on more important infrastructure projects - I also suspect its one big excuse for a lot of people to fill their pockets.
