Small mobile phone needed. Apple SE 6 just about done for!!

Featured Replies

I want a new mobile phone mainly for telephone calls only as I don't need it for anything else, and my main requirement is that it's not too big? Currently I have an old Apple SE 6 (2016 or thereabouts) and the upgrades stopped a couple of years ago I think. and the screen is cracked.

The only one I have found which is about the same size is a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact and although it was released in 2018, it has still got some very good write-ups.

So my question is; does anyone know of any other mobile phone which is compact and does the basics well, or has anyone got any feedback on the Sony I have mentioned?

PS. Any make will do.

It is 2024. What is a telephone call?

There are plenty of smallish Smart phones, then you have Skype, Messenger, Whats App, etc etc all FREE. and everything t'Internet has to offer.

If you just want it for calls you could get one of those retro Nokia's, still available new

telephone, phone, telephone set(noun): electronic equipment that converts sound into electrical signals that can be transmitted over distances ........

I have been searching for a smallish smartphone, but it would seem that these days a six-inch plus size is the norm and I don't want a phone that size as I won't be using it for anything other than calls.

I use Skype and Messenger on my computer, but that stays at home, so I am searching for a smallish smartphone and the Sony was the equivalent to the iPhone 6 SE that I currently have and I wondered if anybody had any info about it or if they personally had one.

I do have an old Nokia phone somewhere, so maybe I should look that out!

Good point scuba and I may well have a search around for an older Nokia model or even a newer version – – thanks for the tip.

I meant to reply earlier, however I did try to use an old Nokia flip phone just yesterday and I really couldn't get on with the older style of buttons which had three letters per key and the multiple pressing needed, so the smart phone has to be my go to these days – – still looking and thanks to @NE1 for the feedback.

Thanks I will check those out, but it is the size rather than the price which is the main consideration.

Obvious answer is another iPhone SE (3rd Gen - released in 2022)

You like the size etc - so if cost is not an issue, another one of these as you already know how to use it and there is no pain switching over to android etc.

If cost is an issue, the 2nd Gen Iphone SE is also (released in 2020) is also a good option (second hand).

I'm using one of these as a back-up phone and agree, the size and weight of this phone is ideal.

Not hardly. iPhone 15.  17 in September.

I have and use 3 old iPhones, 6 Plus, 6s Plus and a 6s, the latter is small, light and does everything, the OS is 15.8, so it will still be able to use LINE for a while yet.

Mrs.T has an iPhone 15 Pro Max, it is a brick......🥴

But, if you do not need anything other than phone calls......

Depends how small you want to go.

I wanted really small so I went with a Unihertz Jelly.

It's perfect for me as I wanted something easy to carry around.

I only use it for phone calls, Whatapps.

What is an SE 6? Haven't ever heard of it.

Personally, I bought an SE (2016) for 1200 baht as a pocket phone, as it's smaller that the 6 and the other SE models. 32GB model. Good condition and looks good in it's new case. 😊

It's the last one with a 4" screen. The others are 4.7". Still okay I guess. I already have a larger screen iPhone, but wanted one for the pocket and the price was right.

Might have to do the same thing...    never a normal comment, always trollish.

As you now have the 1st Gen iPhone SE the upgrade to 3rd Gen would be seamless, you already know what you like.

But, also, if you did have a preference to remain within the Apple ecosystem, then take a look the phones form iPhoneX and above, as they have the FaceID and that is an excellent feature. But the phones are notably heavier.

I have to say thank you for your post, along with a big thank you to all of the other folks who posted, apart from one! I say this because the comments have made me re-evaluate my situation and needs.

You're quite right and as I do have the first-generation iPhone SE, then I'm familiar with it and what it does, so maybe I'll stick with this one or even buy another one (cracked screen) because the size at 5 inches is ideal for carrying in my little pouch which clips on my belt.

In addition I only use it for phone calls and SMS messages, along with the occasional pic and all of my email and banking I do on my computer, so a basic smart phone is sufficient.

I was also thankful for the post by @Will27 as it put me onto another range of smartphones that I didn't even know about, so thank you for that Will.

I think that's about it for now as I have got enough information from the good folks on AN – – thank you and I wish you all a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
