Natthapong Ruengpanyawut, the leader of the opposition People’s Party, is emerging as the leading candidate for Thailand's prime minister, slightly surpassing current Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, as reflected in the latest opinion poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) from December 19 to 24. The results indicate significant shifts in political favour as the nation anticipates its forthcoming elections.

The poll, which sampled 2,000 individuals across the country, revealed that 29.85% of respondents preferred Natthapong for the premiership. His appeal seems rooted in his commitment to party values and his appeal to younger voters.

These elements have evidently resonated well, giving him a slight edge over frontrunner Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who garnered 28.80% support.

Paetongtarn, the current leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party and progeny of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, is seen as a modern leader with an understanding of business administration, which has earned her considerable support.

While enthusiasm for Natthapong and Paetongtarn dominates, 14.40% of respondents remain undecided, indicating potential fluidity in public opinion as election season heats up.

Other figures in the political fray include Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga of the United Thai Nation Party, who attracted 10.25% of the respondents' votes.

He is perceived as a knowledgeable legal expert and approachable leader. Meanwhile, Anutin Charnvirakul, leading the Bhumjaithai Party—the second largest in the coalition—received 6.45% endorsement, recognised for his dedication to national development.

Further down the popularity scale, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of Thai Sang Thai claimed 4.95%, Gen Prawit Wongsuwon of Palang Pracharath gathered 1.70%, and Chalermchai Sri-on of the Democrat Party attracted 1.05%.

In terms of party preference, the People’s Party appears to have solidified its lead, capturing support from 37.30% of respondents. This surpasses Pheu Thai, which now holds 27.70% of the respondents' backing.

The Thai United Nation, Bhumjaithai, Democrat, and Palang Pracharath parties trail with 10.60%, 5.15%, 3.40%, and 3.05% support respectively.

These shifting poll results underscore a dynamic political landscape in Thailand, where political allegiances are evolving as the election draws near. Once the quintessential choice, Pheu Thai now faces a formidable challenge from the ascending People’s Party, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral contest, reported Bangkok Post.

It is very obvious that Thai People want to change.  Not culprits anymore who are now in charge with their empty promises. Nothing has been yet for the country and the people

Would be nice if People's Party would get some local PAO wins to bolster their support!

Not sure why Pita isn't campaigning since Thaksin does for Pheu Thai Party ....

One has a golden friend, the other doesn't.

People's Party note to self....divest every single media share from portfolio, don't even talk about reform of an institution before constitutional reform.

Unfortunatly since thr banning of the charismatic leader Peta the Peoples party have taken a low profile.

Thaksin's ego never allows him to miss a publicity opportunity. However the people will remember his lies and deceit to escape justice and resent his illegal politcal inteference.

With the same outcome, the opposition party being abolished?

In other news, Pheu Thai thrashed People's Party candidates in three recent PAO elections.

Pita was on the stumps for the People's Party up in Udon Thani for the recent PAO election. Despite being the Udon Thani winners in the general election less than 18 months earlier, they're popularity was easily eclipsed by Pheu Thai.

The next round of PAO elections are in a little over one month away and Pheu Thai still has the momentum

There is no doubt that this is likely a skewed poll, I think in a real poll The People's Party would get closer to 75%. Let us not forget their candidate was denied the office of P. M. through some morally bankrupt shenanigans. The people have not forgotten. We need to get rid of the dinosaurs, we need to get rid of those completely lacking in skill like the current P. M. We need to get rid of the retrograde imbeciles who care for nothing but money and are holding the nation back.

We need to bring on the youth, they are the future of the nation and there's a lot of talent, intelligence and creativity in the Thai youth of today.

One is subject to a ban on political activity and the other is not.

Political polls in thailand. Hahahah good one.

Exactly... they're all bought and paid for.

Good for a 555.

On a much bigger scale just look at how many of the recent polls in the US had Harris leading Trump by wide margins.

Rotten to the core.

I vote for the weed and casino party. Well I dont vote, but whoever is in favour of that is the one I want, although I dont care because if they piss me off, Ill take my money somewhere else as I have already done.

Don't laugh, could well be true.

Seems to me the people will eventually tire of the current games and take whatever action is needed to respect the choice of the people.

But unfortunately if will  probably be a while yet before the green suits can't trick the people any more.

People Party is very active all over the country. They are actively campaigning in both Udon and Ubon for PAO races. Not winning but getting a lot more votes than ever before. Not only every province, but also every amphur, and even tambon they have people in. Here is way out in Ubon at my friends house. A PP home.

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has the full legal right to assist in Pheu Thai Party's activities. Thaksin received a royal pardon and was paroled. He is now a free man.  He is not receiving donations.  Pita has an absolute 10 year ban on politics.

What part of this do you not understand? This has been discussed in mutiple Thai English language  media outlets.

Thaksin is slippery as an eel.

Whatever legal restraints he may be facing he will find a way to go around, under, or over them.

nothing will change, people's will doesn't matter,  after all the theatrical mise en scene they went thru to get him here and his daughter "installed as PM" , nobody should expect the Shinawatra gang to give up power
