What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)

Did anyone else find the last episode of Mobland to be poorly written and not a satisfying conclusion to the season? Great show otherwise.

I'm really surprised to see no Taylor Sheridan mentioned yet..

If you're of the generation that grew up watching cowboys and indians on TV (yes, I know,)..  Then you'll enjoy his writing.  Even the modern times stuff...

Yellowstone

1883

1923

Tulsa King

Mayor of Kingstown

Landman (season 1 running now)

Lioness (is a bit duff but the battle scenes are ok.)

He also has A tier actors.. Harrison Ford, Kevin Costner, Sylvester Stallone, etc.

Landman was great.

1883 was one of the most astonishing seasons of TV, ever. If you like bleak and realistic westerns.

Yellowstone was a classic. Diabolical characters.

Tulsa King was entertaining.

Mayor of Kingstown was a bit much. Very much overkill. Couldn't get through the last season. Way, way too bleak and manipulative.

Lioness was fun. Second season was a bit better.

1923 missed the mark. On so many levels.

Wind River remains the Sheridan classic. Watch it annually. Never gets old. Hell or high water was great too.

Watched Anora, about a stripper who hooks up with the irresponsible son of a Russian oligarch and ends up marrying him in Las Vegas. She actually thinks she's struck paydirt until the parents arrive. Not a great film, but the performances are excellent and the twist at the end oddly touching. Another film in the popular modern genre of how the rich treat everybody else like trash.

I thought it was an amazing film. Very ballsy. Not something Hollywood would ever make. Totally independent. Very adult. Highly recommended, as long as you are not a prude.

It's a heck of a series, very realistic and very graphic, almost to the point of being upsetting.

We are on episode three but need to take a 'calm down' break during each episode so we watch halfway to digest and recover then watch the second half next day.

It its brutal gritty and very realistic, I have never seen anything quite like it before...

Felt the same way about 1883. Too dense to watch quickly. Spent about two months on it. Then watched it again a year later. Really great work.

Well according to the blurb, it does contain some facts and indeed the Mormons were responsible for the killing of  native Americans, primarily because they wanted the land and the following took place: –

The Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857 resulted in the deaths of at least 120 members of an immigrant wagon train. The massacre was carried out by settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

Battle at Fort Utah. In 1850, Brigham Young ordered his militia to "go and kill" the Timpanogos people of Utah Valley. This order resulted in the bloodiest week of Native American killing in Utah history.

LDS militiamen siege a wagon train
In 1857, LDS militiamen dressed up as Native Americans and besieged a wagon train of white pioneers traveling through Utah.

In effect, whatever land the Mormons wanted, they took irrespective of the Native Americans living on it.

The Mormons were brutal. The founders were savages and pimps. And it turned into one of the richest churches on the planet.

I have watched Deadwood, I think maybe three times and have it in my archive, not watched The Good Lord Bird, I'll see if I can find it, Thanks for that

Deadwood is like Shakespeare in Tombstone. Great writing. Almost as well written as True Detective season one, which I consider one of the best seasons of TV, ever. A true depiction of the utter darkness that is Louisiana. Astonishing.

Watched the Brutalist. Great cinematography. But, did I miss something? So highly regarded. But hard to watch. Left me wondering what I just watched.

Medicine Man, Sean Connery.  I saw it when it came out, will finish watching tonight, can't remember how it ends.  I recently got the suspicion that someone I knew was the inspiration for a character in the movie.

I completely agree the TV version was a classic the film version kind of sucked. The cast was great, the writing was superb, the set design, costumes, everything about that show was right.

Haven't even watched it yet, but Marc Maron fans are in for some treats. His new HBO comedy special Panicked is out now and a documentary about him Are We Good should be out in a few months.
