I have to say most are spot on.

Like #17 "Life in Thailand vs US"

"17."I have been living in Thailand and Bali this past year, and in both cases, I am far, far ahead of when I lived in the Seattle area in the US. My expenses are around half, and I lack almost nothing except some peccadillo-like things like major music concerts (some are in Bangkok, but that's not a place I choose to pass through). Further, the culture is so much better — none of the fear and anger that have reared their heads since Trump entered the scene. The people here are so kind, accepting, and joyful. I haven't even seen a case of road rage! I have no desire to go back to the USA."

I will have to "debunk " you on some of those statements

Bear with me as I just found this new word *debunking "

But please don't get me off topic

I just wanted to debunk you and say there has been quite a lot road rage and bike accidents in Bali in 2024 so much the Government were planning to debunk out and do something

All and anything, can be enjoyed, or, avoided, in most any location.

I prefer living in TH, at the moment and past 24 ish yrs, but would have no problem living in USA, or most places.

All the negatives about TH, I don't experience or avoid being around.  Same with all the positives of the USA, and glad I saw and or experienced them for most of the majority of my adult live, while living there for 45 yrs.

The other half of that adult life, I'm enjoying all the positives TH has to offer.

The U.S has one of the highest prison populations in the world. Step out of line there and you are arrested and in court so easily. Here in Thailand its not the case. There are laws but many people ignore them.

The IRS is a complete nightmare for Americans in general. In comparison the Thai rev dept is incompetent and cannot efficiently tax its own population

And whilst I don't wish to be "debunking " you on this , The Philippines have jailed a 78yo farang for 7 years for having weed plants in his Condo when 3 hours away in Bangkok it was legal !

I disagree.

Americans got polarized during his 1st term. Families turned against each other, friends against friends, etc

Very dark and sad period in the US history. Made me to return and invest in 3 EU countries, soon I may add Spain and/or Portugal. I'd love to keep my money in the US but I can't 'cause I am pizzzed off, unhappy.

Trump left the office with lowest ratings ever!

But facts are never a problem for cattle like "Trumpers"...

That was the US media thought control / propaganda that obviously worked on you, it's easy to manipulate dumb people.

Mass lootings of CVS type stores became the norm under Biden as well as mass illegal immigration through the porous southern border and those crims are running amok in inner cities after being given all sorts of free sht.

I’m going to have to see what the fact checkers have to say about your debunking.

Knees, we have to see the knees

To be fair, I think most of the Western world sucks for a very simple reason - too expensive to live in. And governments don't seem to be able to bring the cost of living down to affordable levels.

In Thailand, I can live on a pension and investment income until I am about 105 yo, at my current rate of capital loss.

In Australia, my capital would evaporate with frightening speed, leaving me with just the pension to live on.

The USA doesn't necessarily suck.  Only for some people who are unlucky.

At the end of WW II, the USA was on top of the world.  The economic and manufacturing hub of planet Earth.  Much of Europe was in shambles, as was Japan. China was still largely agricultural.  A high school graduate could find a job in one day, make enough money to support a family and live a great middle class lifestyle, and send his kids to college.  He could even save and invest.

Over time, USA dominance slowly eroded.  I won't waste everyone's time with a big history lesson.  Long story short: the military industrial complex and the foreign policy establishment thought the US was and always would be invincible.  In their mind, the world revolved around the USA.  But over time, the wealth of the USA was frittered away on wars and foreign adventures.  The defense contractors made money and their influence grew.  Before the so-called Neocons, we had people in the Stare Department peddling the "Domino Theory."  The Korean War, the Vietnam war, and all the little Neocon adventures since.  Continual war. Whatever these people were called, their world view was more or less the same.  Consequently, America slowly went broke and the middle class slowly disappeared.  Nixon closed the gold window in 1971, and a deal was struck with the Saudis establishing the Petrodollar.  That system worked well for decades, until it collided with reality.  How does a country go bankrupt? Slowly, and then all at once, to paraphrase Hemingway.

So if you live in the USA and make lots of money, life can be good.  For everyone else, not so much anymore.

I came to Thailand to get away, far away from my ex-wife and the threat of lifetime alimony payments (Massachusetts).

All the money will soon be in "Cloud banks" and Bitcoins.

Then one morning all is gone...

That's why I live stone age life with cash in European poor countries who don't trust Internet banks at all.

Let's see who'll survive - Hi-Tech gurus or us unwashed?

This is just a beginning of troubles for Hi Tech gurus;

"James Howells discarded a hard drive containing 8,000 bitcoins in 2013.

He has been fighting for access to a local landfill to search for it for a decade.

This week, a judge struck down his latest attempt to search for the bitcoin, worth over $750 million.

A British man's yearslong attempts to find a hard drive containing around $750 million of bitcoin in a landfill site have been hit with a fresh setback."

They say it's just a matter of time before quantum computers will be able to hack into whatever password scheme they can dream up to protect the blockchain.  Not anytime soon, but soon enough to worry about, for anyone who thinks ahead.  I read this years ago, but now, with quantum computers on the horizon, it may come sooner than expected.

And then there's the problem of what to do if the grid goes down.  No internet, no access.

It sounds like this person simply doesn't know the place well enough.  They believe that the few shallow interactions that they have had are representative of the whole, and they then compare that to their lifetime of experience living in the US.  There's plenty of anger, non-acceptance, misery and road rage, it's just part of the culture to hide it all and they insulated from most of it due to being foreign.

Gawd, you're one of those. 😴
