Popular Post KhunLA Posted January 5 Popular Post Posted January 5 From USA for first 45 yrs, now TH, past 25 yrs, no plans on leaving. Settled in, wife of 19 years, and daughter, knocking of 26 yrs old. No reason or desire to leave, even if not having wife & kid. Final decision to stay was ~5 yrs ago, when contracted to build 3rd house, for the purpose of staying. First 2 houses were built, simply because I needed a comfy place to live, till kid was done High School. Reality being, after high school, I had no reason to stay in TH. Especially since she attended Uni in a different province. Daughter now lives in a different province. 3rd, present house, built for the long haul, having solar, greenhouse/garden, even chickens soon. Bought extra lots on dead end soi, for investment, but more to ensure no neighbors. Will buy the last 3 lots, when available, for same reason. BEVs, that will probably out last me. Plan on staying till the last bbq. 2 3 2 1 2

Popular Post OneMoreFarang Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 I live since almost 30 years in Thailand. And sometimes I join the discussions about Trump. Because unfortunately Americans elected that guy to be the most powerful person in the world, not just Ameria. I hope he builds a big wall around their country and makes America great (again?) for anybody who lives there. When he did that, maybe in a hundred years or so, then he can let the Americans out again. 4 1 3 2 12

It's about expats and Thailand and it is about people talking about America and American problems. I responded to the whole original post, not just the Thai part. American politics influences the whole world, and you know this. So, it's no surprise that people all over the world also talk about crazy Americans. 5 6 3 2

Popular Post bunnydrops Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 I spend most of my time here in Thailand. Even at 79, I can still get construction work in the States where I can get more money in a week than I can spend in a month here. My Thai wife also has a seasonal job there so it is worth missing the rainy season here🙂. We will be going back one more time this year and then it will be full time in Thailand after that. 1 7
Popular Post pgrahmm Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 From the USA - live here with my wife & daughters, 24 and 17..... Spent Sept 23-Jan 24 in the US RVing in/seeing 14 states.... We will probably repeat that this year with different sights to see.... I'm 77 now - I think we (wife/RV/me) still have a couple (or a few) more trips left in us..... Everything's all stocked up & waiting on us..... I do tire of the bashing of US expats....If I meet somebody that's an a$$h-le it's a one & done for me..... Don't paint us all with the same wide brush..... 1 5 5 3

Some people still don't realize that when you trash talk Americans, you are trash talking all the people worldwide, as that's what America is. To answer the OP, 6 years here, five too long, and going back asap. Half of the country is not just a few, + the woke part of the other side of it, makes it solid 70% crazy people give and take. Moved back last April, and the plan is 5 months this year two trips, and after that 2 months a year until my wife gets her citizenship. 2 1
Popular Post GammaGlobulin Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 To live in Thailand? What do you mean by "live"? Do you mean just to remain alive, or to actually LIVE in Thailand? Most here, probably, are not living here. Instead, they are just existing here. Existing is not living. The majority of TV members, one might imagine, are WAY out of their depth in Asia, and therefore Thailand. One might as well ask: a. What percentage of the TV members speak Thai fairly fluently b. Of those, what further percentage would gladly leave Thailand if you gave them USD200.00 in cash c. As for me, nobody could pay me enough to leave Thailand; I love it so. d. This is what is meant by living in Thailand, and not being a pretender, of which there are are just too many in Pattaya. e. I DO live in Asia, simply because I have been living here for over 44 years. f. If I were not living in Thailand, then I could not be living anywhere else, since I have not lived anywhere else during the past 44 years. g. Also, I could not be NOT living here if I were, indeed, not living elsewhere, and still be here to reply to this Topic. h. So, I must be living SOMEWHERE, obviously. And, if I am not living outside Thailand, and I know that I am not, than I must be living within the borders of Thailand. i. I both live in Thailand and also feel alive in Thailand. 3 11 1 1 7

Politicians have a way of fooling others, and have been doing it for a very long time. Some very intelligent people I know voted for him, hoping he will live up to his promises, although they actually know he's a little off. Time will tell if he's learned from his first tenure. American culture and system is toxic in many ways, that's the main issue. A young nation, without previous collecting history to bound all Americans together, and now all the problems a empire experienced throughout the time. 1 2 2 1 2
