Another nonsensical corruption of the English language.

So far no one has any evidence that he was "banged up".

Next you're going to tell me zebras walk across crosswalks that are white painted on grey tarmac. 👋

Why are you being unpleasant for ?

I was just telling you what a word means in the U.K

Why not just be nice and reply thanking me for taking my time to answer your query ?

Why the need to be horrible ?

  • Probably in the minority, but IMHO, that's exactly how prison should be.  Punishment, not the comfy stay like in the USA.

Sorry, but I think that there is rather more to this than meets the eye!

Sounds a little harsh for a few days overstay. Maybe the old squeeze has contacts in the BIB and contrived to do him in.

This guy was imprisoned in a holding cell, awaiting justice. I believe the ethos of the law is 'innocent until proven guilty'

Also, human rights are important and most likely being broken all the time in Thai prisons. That is not acceptable, regardless of someone's crime. Two wrongs do not make a right.

'Punishment' does not lower rates of re-offending. Rehabilitation does. Rehabilitation has been proven beyond doubt (by the Scandanavians for example) to be far more beneficial for society as a whole (as well as the offender, their family etc)

Draconian measures, hang-em-high, hit them hard attitudes come over as knee jerk reactions - if the evidence and history on the subject is studied it becomes abundantly clear such attitudes are not conducive to the formation a safer society.

Let's hope you never get falsly accused of a crime here eh? All it takes is one spurned ex-girlfriend...

That ... depends on what country you are in.

Don’t risk overstaying your visa thinking it’s just a small fine. It’s not worth becoming a victim of this.”

Strange how the descendants of 1945 are treating the Palestinians at this very moment.

A sitting Prime Minister has an international warrant for war crimes, yet, just like in 1945, governments / people sit back and do nothing.  UN stands for "Useless Numpty's."

Over 45 thousand dead, mostly women and children, in an area 40kms x 20kms.  The Gaza Strip is nothing more than a kill zone.

There's no hope for humanity.  We will always repeat the past.

45 thousand dead, who told you that, Hamas the ones responsible.

If we did that with illegal immigrants in the UK, no one would want to come.

But illegal immigrants in the UK are detained in secure facilities. Better conditions than these obviously. But banged up all the same.

if only western prisons were like that, maybe, just maybe, they might never want to return...

do same for illegals, instead of hotel rooms

Illegals don't get hotel rooms in the UK.

You dont simply end up in a Thai jail and beaten up just for overstaying a few days, unless someone really want that to happen.

Obviously the police was alerted by a tip off, in which it also included a good amount of money to ensure he gets the beating and stays in jail for a while.

Could be he pissed of the wrong people, maybe his lady had connections with police, this is LOS, anything can happen anytime!

Harsh and the Thai prison service are the same word.

I was lucky myself as the traffic accident I was in only resulted in myself being injured. Had the Thai guy died I'd be experiencing Thai prison hospitality myself.

I was always aware that I could easily end up in a Thai jail ( and the accident wasn't even my fault ), so I guess I was lucky in that I never did. My biggest fear when driving in the country was that some kids on a m'bike would ride out in front of me without looking, and my life would be over. For that reason, I never drove out of town without my wife with me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. 🙇 It is absolutely valuable.

In January 1945, with the Soviet army approaching, Nazi officials ordered the camp abandoned and sent an estimated 60,000 prisoners on a forced march to other locations. When the Soviets entered Auschwitz, they found thousands of emaciated detainees and piles of corpses left behind.

And even today, the Germans are still ashamed of what they did to people.  Yes, they were people just like them.

And now they treat their prisoners in a humane way. Afraid that anyone would remind them of these events.

"Do not do to others what you would not want done to you” is a fundamental principle of fairness and empathy known as the Golden Rule. It means that you should treat others with the same kindness and respect that you would like to be treated with." Also the same way to define 'being civilized'.

If anyone here would agree to see his son or daughter treated the way this guy was treated, for a fault that would not even make eyebrows raise, well that would mean that this person disagrees with Confucius, and would celebrate this life lesson taught to one of his children.

Shame on you....

"Do not do to others what you would not want done to you”.

The same goes for the Criminals ending up in that jail, right?

Many sources.  This was 8th Jan.  The number of dead would be even higher now.

A media source.

If Hamas is solely to blame, why is there an ICC warrent out for Netanyahu?

I don’t trust everything a Brit says because they tend to always add extra sauce to their stories 😆

I wish I understood what you meant in your reply.

You refer to criminals, so I do not know how this related to the subject.

Do not do to others what you would not want done to you... Simply put, this means you should treat others the way you would like to be treated. If you don't want to be hurt, treated unfairly, or ridiculed, don't do those things to other people.

The subject is about someone being treated unfairly. He is not a criminal.

I would think that most criminals believe, after judgment, that they deserved the penalty.

But perhaps your strengths do not include philosophy, right?

Why did the 90 day reporting system not detect his overstay?

I thought that was one of it's functions!

Do tourists do 90 day reporting ?

This lad overstayed his visa hence he got baged up.... missed 90day reporting is not an overstay.

Oops!

I saw the bit about him wanting to start a business and having a girlfriend so wrongly assumed he was on a longer term visa, not a tourist one!

I've overstayed for 43 days once, though was not entirely my fault - the revenge of the former employer - but just paid 20,000 baht and was reprimanded by a female officer a little bit. Though, the overstay was discovered when I was extending my new working visa, not while applying for one. I still don't know how it wasn't discovered when I had applied for a new Non-B visa in Vientiane...

I agree with you... most county jails and prisons here in the US are way to comfy for the prisoners,  Most let you have cell phones, cigarettes, pretty much anything you want.

you're 100% correct. Many honnest peoples with some bad luck have a worced life then these days prisoners in western jails. Free clothes, 3 meals, showers, bed, tv etc.

And if you don't like the jail then don't be stupid enough to get inside.
