People are concerned that their Social Security benefits will be messed with as Trump/Musk doesn't seem to understand or care about their concern.

You have to skip over the dozens of times during the campaign that Trump has said "no cuts to social security" to make this claim.

Most recently, even since the inception of DOGE, he has said it again in a couple of interviews:

1) February 7, 2025: During a press conference at the White House alongside Japanese Prime Minister, Trump stated, "Social Security will not be touched, it will only be strengthened." This came as DOGE’s audit was underway, with Musk present at the event.
2) February 18, 2025: In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump addressed concerns sparked by DOGE’s fraud allegations, saying, "Social Security won't be touched, other than if there's fraud or something.

President Trump has been consistent on his policy of no cuts to social security.  Everyone knows that social security cuts are political suicide, not going to happen!! :jap:

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency claimed a saving of $8 billion on a terminated contract this week—but it was actually worth just $8 million.

I hope you are right.

However, no matter how many times Trump might say something I don't necessarily trust him.

Like all politicians what is said on the campaign trail and what is done if elected are 2 different things.

But I sincerely hope that you are right.

How many times did Trump claim Mexico will pay for the wall?

Having zero memory of past fraud helps a Conman steal the loot

Are you really so ignorant of the past or such a racist that you want to believe everything a Conman who believes the exact same dumb racist things you believe says?

I personally don't understand how someone can be so gullible, but I guess if you don't know you're being conned...

CONGRATULATIONS

You're what the Conman calls a "mark"

I am against Social Security, and think it should be phased out.

That said, many of the people that paid into it depend on it, deserve to get what was agreed to,

And if they are living in Thailand, and 65 or over, the Country saves a bundle on Medicare.

Most people end up drawing much more that they put in.

I have not stated that anyone should not get what was agreed to.  What we see today is that some  beneficiaries are receiving far more than was intended under the program, and in excess of what their contributions and their accrued interest can support. The program has been expanded well beyond its intent. As of 2020, Social Security now pays out more in benefits than it collects in contributions and other income, combined.  This is not sustainable. So, yes, your comment that  some people are drawing more than they contributed is valid.

Despite that current funding shortfall,  it is an important benefits program and must continue. Social Security has dramatically reduced poverty among the elderly. Today, an estimated one-third of seniors rely on Social Security for 90 percent or more of their retirement income. Without access to the benefits, they would obviously be destitute. It is a critical component of the US economy. My comment is in respect to a small number of beneficiaries who collect more than their contribution was worth.

Medicare coverage and Social Security benefits are two separate programs with their own individual rules and are funded differently. Medicare premiums already take into account the restrictive conditions.

The burden of  supporting social security has fallen on the shoulders of  the  young workers of the USA, and it is an unfair burden, The baby boomers had everything handed to them with their social services, subsidized lifestyles and low cost resources. In return, they left their country in a financial mess. Now these selfish people continue to suck the life out of their country demanding that others finance their retirements. Young people have had enough and want it to stop.

There are many affordable places in the USA.

Have you been to America lately?

I was just there in December last year.

It wasn't "affordable".

Heard an interview with someone running a statewide food kitchen.

Said food costs went up 20% in 2024.

Their budget to buy food went from $500K to $2.4M just in the past few years.

The Rich People running things in America decided they need more profits, so they raised prices.

It's as simple as that.

They felt like it.

And they did.

Unregulated Greedy Virtual Monopolies can do that.

Poisonous to the Middle Class, further reducing their standard of living. 😜

2. Musk has found $0 fraud so far

3. FSD doesn't work

4. Mexico never paid for the wall

5. COVID didn't just go away

Conclusion?

Trump just said zelensky was at 4%, pretty sure The Orange leader has better Intel than polls you read in a wopo opinion piece

And you believe anything that the orange buffoon says? He is a compulsive liar as he has been throughout most of his life and he has gotten worse if that is at all possible.

However the gullible will believe anything he says, unfortunately, and there's no helping those people as can be seen quite frequently on AN.

And the real doozy which shows that he is mentally impaired, has him stating that Ukraine started the war – – it just gets worse.  He is as dumb as a bag of rocks and Putin is playing him, the ultimate puppet master.

As usual, Trump supporters put their fingers in their ears. I have seen the entire clip and it is no different.

Talking about Ukraine, "You should have never started it" is pretty clear. But you believe what you want to believe, that's fine. Quite funny actually.

Did you believe trump only said there were  'fine people' with regards to Charlottesville ?

I will search the full speach and go from there

Putting Musk in this position was one of the most horrific mistakes that Trump has ever made, and time will reveal the extent of the irreparable destruction he has caused and will cause. It's just a matter of time. The richer Musk has become, the more arrogant, the more self-righteous, the more ignorant, and the more obnoxious he has become.

He's the last person in the world who should have this kind of power and he is as dangerous as his boss.

Beach please.

No one wants to "protect bureaucratic waste, fraud and abuse".

Saying that is the purest bovine waste.

People are concerned that their Social Security benefits will be messed with as Trump/Musk doesn't seem to understand or care about their concern.

In the same way that no one wants an open border and millions of illegal aliens flooding across the border.

This thread is about the risk of losing a lifetime of contributions to the Social Security Fund.

Not hardly.  This is just another entry in the endless spewing of deranged rantings.

Where exactly is the threat of losing "a lifetime of contributions" by auditing payments of benefits?

The actual threat to your benefits is the system imploding sooner than expected due to corruption, fraud and abuse.

Many have Trump in their heads for sure.

But this is not that.

This thread is about the risk of losing a lifetime of contributions to the Social Security Fund.

If Musk's little band of merry men were in some way under adult supervision I would feel a lot better.

I hope it works out that they are able to verify the status of the Social Security system and if there is waste and fraud to identify it.

But, they are crowing about vast waste and fraud before they have identified any.

That is suspect.

What also makes me suspicious is that they have started with Social Security rather than the military budget which has not been scrutinized and from which Musk's companies benefit.

Just read where the military is now in the crosshairs.  Seems everyone is under the same microscope just a question of order.

Was USAID not first?

And the budget for Social Security is about 50% greater than the defense budget.

So true.  If only they had signed that agreement in Minsk................

If only Russia hadn't intervened in Donbass and Donestk, arguing it did not sign the agreement and therefore had no obligation to respect it. 😆

BTW, Trump said 3 years ago!
