Where Will We Be in Five Years?

Featured Replies

Looking at the current trajectory of global events, where do you think the world will be five years from now?

• Will we see more war or less?

• More poverty or greater prosperity?

• Will environmental challenges worsen, or will we make progress in fixing them?

• Will human rights and equality improve, or will they decline?

• Will people be healthier due to better awareness of health and technology, or will poor diet and lifestyle choices continue to take a toll?

• Will AI become a true game-changer, or will it simply evolve into a more advanced and user-friendly search tool?

• And for Gen Z, will they find themselves in a better world or a more challenging one?

I try to stay positive in my outlook, even if the future for the world doesn’t seem so bright. Things may look bleak, but they always can change. At least the sun will still rise every morning, until the day it doesn’t, and by then, we’ll all be gone.

What are your thoughts?

Maybe less poverty, maybe homelessness will be solved.

But also maybe middle class will decline?

Maybe price of goods and services will decline due to AI?

The future financial picture is hard to predict what it will look like.

Humanity already has the means and resources to eliminate poverty, starvation, and homelessness on a global scale. However, it requires the resolve to do so, and at this point, that determination seems absent, as inequality continues to grow. I wish it weren't the case.

I trust nature but not people. Look at how stupid the average person is.

I think that, with recent developments, you can't be pessimistic enough.

Nice positive vibes for the morning

If I'm still above ground, nothing will be different.  And all the items in OP, good for headlines, but nothing will change, and none will affect me.

This speaker makes a valid point that consuming daily news will make one have a bleak outlook on the world and it's not an accurate reflection of reality.

And then discusses advances in technologies that will enhance our lives.

Did you buy the grave plot already?

I always come back to the following words spoken by Michael Caine in the opening monologue of the film "The Quiet American".

Of course they were written for the purposes of a fictional story, and on a specific topic, but I look at them through the eyes of wishing the world as a whole could just be half as romantic and simple:

I can't say what made me fall in love with Vietnam. That a woman's voice can drug you? That everything is so intense - the color, the taste, even the rain? Nothing like the filthy rain in London.

They say whatever you're looking for you will find here.

They say you come to Vietnam and you understand a lot in a few minutes. But the rest has got to be lived.

The smell, that's the first thing that hits you - promising everything in exchange for your soul.

And the heat. Your shirt is straight away a rag. You can hardly remember your name, or what you came to escape from.

But at night, there's a breeze. The river is beautiful. You could be forgiven for thinking there was no war, that the gunshots were fireworks, that only pleasure matters.

A pipe of opium, or the touch of a girl who might tell you she loves you.

And then something happens as you knew it would, and nothing can ever be the same again.

You cannot solve homelessness.  Most homeless are mentally ill and/or addicted to drugs.  They want to be homeless or are unable to function in a home.

The only real solution would be to have mental institutions again.  The problem is "care in the community" is what we have now.

It's already happening, obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells.

You think DOGE is about saving money? It's about re-directing it.

Exactly .. redirect from wasteful corruption, to beneficial programs, like SS & MC.

Gov't gets plenty of tax income, just need to stop wasting it.  20% goes to defense budget ... defense from who ?

China's not invading, Russia can't, and the other 200+ countries are allies or don't have a military.

USA doesn't need a defense budget, and needs to stop supplying corporate security worldwide for free.

How long do you think the US will have allies if it's going to slap tariffs on everyone? Canada is already forging trade ties with China and the EU.

If you think Trump and Musk will be putting the money they save into SS and MC, you are delusional. Oligarchs line their own pockets.

5 Years = 2030 = the date of "The Great Reset" being planned by The World Economic Forum (WEF).

A lot of people will claim they are dictators and it's a conspiracy ...

But have a look at their vision of life in 2030.

Unemployment issue will be solved?

And environmental degradation issue will be solved?

Maybe fewer wealthy people, but people in general will have more contented lives?

That's just it, the USA doesn't need allies :coffee1:

Not that the USA has any.  Just a bunch of money suckin' parasites.

There will be more and more highrises all around Pattaya under construction.  There will be a lot more Chinese living in Thailand along with Indians, Russians, and Pattaya will continue to grow.  There is still a lot of undeveloped beachfront or beach near land that is still a bargain compared to most other beach front properties around the world.  Jomtien high rises still have miles and miles of beach land to turn into condos and people from all over the world will be drawn to a cheaper more simple lifestyle where they can get away from all the political dramas.

The bars will continue to get pushed back away from beach front inland.  Poor Thais will continue to be drawn into the Pattaya area to try and make $$ from the increasing numbers of farangs with money to spend.

The Thai people will still be some of the nicest people on earth that will put up with all sorts of idiots who come here and show them very little respect.
