Like I have said many times.....The only winner at a casino is the casino....Even the winners become losers in time....At least most of them....

Casinos create poverty on a massive scale....Plus suicides  are not uncommon....

Because there's no upward mobility for the vast majority of thai people, especially isaan people. Gambling is highly enticing when it doesn't matter if you lose it all because you're broke anyway.

Hmm, revenue for Government, I can certainly see that.

Jobs for Thai people? Well yes, just as when a new hotel opens, jobs are created, but it’s not like casinos are going to be built by the dozens, so the number of new jobs in comparison to the size of the workforce will be minuscule.

 

On the other hand, the scope for corruption and graft is immense. Thailand stands a chance of becoming a worldwide hub for money laundering because the track record of the country for enforcing meaningful regulation is very poor.

 

And that revenue created for the government, that comes from the customers of the casinos. Nobody cares if high roller Chinese lose a packet at a casino, but how about gambling addicts like Thai people? The potential for destruction of middle class wealth is huge.

 

i’m not saying that casinos are all bad. Singapore, Macao and Las Vegas ( although the latter has experienced a period of time when the mob were involved) have shown that they can work well within a community. Equally, the risks involved with casinos when not properly regulated are amply demonstrated elsewhere.

They can make and pass all the laws they like as none are strictly enforced.

Yes indeed, the report is much like all the Income Tax reports, speculation and presumptions but nothing of any factual nature.

Why are they so obsessed with nightlife regulations? They come up with all that BS on how to get more tourists and then they restrict one of the main sectors that actually brings in money. So counterproductive! 

So nothing changes effectively.

What middle class? There's a simple solution: make it illegal for Thais to enter the casinos, allow only foreigners. Show your passport at the door or don't enter.
