I'm not against tying them up.  I'm suggesting that maybe a country that depends on tourism should have cropped the photo of a couple of tourists trussed up like that.  It is not a good look, and it could come back and bite TAT in the butt.  Especially with all the scabs and bruises and dirt on their legs.

Your perspective is noted. Though perhaps photos like these would deter criminal behavior, maybe. No heart here for any criminal, not in the slightest.

  • that's not drifting, that's driving around in a circle...

  • I was more than a little taken aback by the hog-tied ankles as well, but probably has everything to do with their erratic driving and uncooperative behavior, possible inebriation, and attempt to flee

They were not hogtied, ever seen a hog tied?

What do you expect, polished shackles? They’re criminals and tried to elude law enforcement and deserved detainment, it’s not like they were whipped. Lighten up the overt sensitivity for criminals.

Actually it is hog-tied

Neither do I.  But my first thought looking at the photo is that it appears they have been "worked over".  Even if that's not the case, perceptions count when you're in the tourism biz.

Have we seen Thais or farangs restrained like this for what was at first a traffic infringement.

A 'traffic infringement'! Give me a break. That was highly dangerous driving in a crowded public place; could so easily have ended with bystanders injured or worse if the clowns had lost control..

Try that in London and see how the cops react.

Try it in Lagos and expect to be brassed up by the cops or military.

In an unusual turn of events, two Nigerian men were arrested in Phuket last night after being caught drifting a sedan in the middle of a busy intersection. The incident, which occurred at the Koh Kaew Intersection on Thep Krasattri Road, was widely shared online, drawing attention to the brazen behaviour of the suspects.

The video, posted by Newshawk Phuket, shows the sedan performing dangerous manoeuvres despite the surrounding traffic. Witness reports suggest the same vehicle was involved in similar stunts at another intersection the same day.

Thalang Police eventually tracked the car down and apprehended the suspects near Soi Koh Kaew 23. Uncooperative from the start, the men attempted to flee into a nearby forest but were unsuccessful. When brought in for questioning, they resisted communication, opting to sing rather than speak English or comply with drug testing.

The police discovered one of the men, Anamere George, had a standing warrant for illegal entry and possession of cocaine. Charges have been filed against both individuals, including illegal entry under the Immigration Act and reckless driving under the Land Traffic Act. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety and foreign compliance with local laws in tourist areas like Phuket, reported The Thaiger.

Could it be they didn't take RTP as serious?

Almost spit out my coffee when reading here they are off to an 17th century slave ship.

imagine how they are being treated in a thai prison lol

A lot better than a Nigerian prison

Their real crime wasn’t the dangerous driving, which can be seen every day of the week, but the failure to grovel to the arresting officers

I saw the whole spectacle on TV last night

Also on TV I saw a hiso Thai in a Benz assault a boy on a motorcycle because he stopped too quickly in front of his car thus hindering his progress

The boy’s father was rightly incensed and complained to the police who did nothing

It’s a good photo for the anti criminal tourist industry, a personal preference and would like to see more of it. More photos of banged up apprehended criminals should be broadcasted, even if they’re fake, it would help keep the peace given a perspective of criminal activity is dangerous up against the cops.

The xenophobia on display. Repeatedly saying “Falang”. What difference does it make if they are or not. It’s about foolish behavior by a driver.

Is singing to the police a code word for paying them?

It used to mean spill your guts.

I read the headline too fast.  I thought it said they were grifting.  Makes more sense with these guys.

So you would have no sympathy for a criminal if the police just roughed them up a bit more, or killed them on the spot?  Your evil perspective is noted.

Actually you are completely wrong.

To be hog-tied, the hands and feet are bound together so that the prisoner is completely immobile and helpless.  It can be in front of the body, or behind which is especially brutal.

It is usually a prepatory step before slitting the victim's throat.

Fine, jail and deport lifetime. These individuals are certified losers and untrainable. A couple of self-centered, arrogrant drug addicts.  This is not an issue of tightening regulations regarding traffic safety and foreign compliance with local laws. This is an issue of getting these individuals off the street and out of the country, these individuals do not represent the average law-abiding foreign tourist.

A distinction that's probably lost on the folks back home contemplating spending their sweaty tourist money in Thailand.  Or not...

Perceptions count.  Do what you will.  Just crop the photos.

Looks like a front wheel drive Mazda. Wonder how they managed to do drifting with that one... Maybe reversing?

Come on guys! Zip ties are cheap!  You gotta use some old fish net ropes???  🙄

LOL, according to some on this forum, "farang" is a racial slur, reserved exclusively for Caucasians. Used here to describe sub-Saharan Africans, it conveniently morphs back into a xenophobic slur. Speaking of racist and xenophobic, more than half the comments on this thread fall into one or the other or both categories. Do you have no objection to this? Work on building your own "Christian" values, I say. :whistling:

Tourism isn’t a Nigerian thing.

It is more like visit a country and do everything illegal I possibly can.

As I have said before, I reckon everyone of them in Thailand is up to no good.

Great variety of these quality tourists.

Seems there's quite a competition now. The 'golden oldies' are losing to the new quality types!

I'm afraid I will have to respectfully disagree.

In terms of brand value, Thailand is like Tom Hanks.

Impeccable, invaluable and above reproach.
