The guy may have family that could retaliate. Maybe it's better to just poison the entire well in the moo ban to be sure.

we have 4 dogs, we are outside the city area and rarely have people near our house, our dogs will bark at cars, bikes and people that come near our house, also other dogs and snakes, which is to be expected, they also will howl when other dogs in the area howl, also to be expected. Dogs naturally will protect their area, our dogs when inside our 1 rai fenceline react to others, once outside the fenceline they do not bark at other people etc. Dogs barking at people etc near their house is to be expected, barking for the sake of it is not and people that have dogs that bark continually for no good reason need to do something about it, too many have dogs but do not walk them, play with them etc, they leave them to do as they please which in the end does cause problem barking. While western countries generally have laws regarding dogs/pet ownership here they have nothing, many owners just let them run wild because they do not want to clean up after them or take any responsibility for what they do, many also do not feed them properly so they scavenge, pet ownership in Thailand is truly pathetic.

Dogs bark regularly near my place.

Always, when a 'stranger' is in the area.

That stranger can be a person, another dog, a snake or whatever.

25 years of living here, doors and windows always open, safe because barking dogs keep it that way.

just buy a dog-whistle: problem solved!

exactly.

are dogs over-rated?

maybe people should just be allowed to keep cats as pets.

cats are quiet.

Not always - they sound like babies crying when 2 males cross each others path, or a female is in heat!

The sound of the barking dogs doesn't bother me near as much as the righteous indignation that I feel towards the dog owners for allowing their animals to upset the peace of the neighborhood. I take it as a personal insult against me and our neighbors. It is disrespectful and a slap in the face to everyone within hearing distance of the dog(s). In my mind, the peace of the community takes precedence over the individual liberty of the residents. The same rule goes for loud music!

Over the past 15 years I have personally approached three separate neighbors at their front gate to peaceably and diplomatically share my concerns about their barking dogs or loud music, and each time I was met with nothing but disdain and hostility. To this day these neighbors still refuse to speak to me or even acknowledge my presence on the soi. There's just no way to win with these people. I am totally convinced that selfishness is simply written into their DNA!

Indeed this dogs sh*tshow is just a symptom. A no win situation it is. So maybe that's one of the reasons long stay foreigners are segregated and do not speak Thai. After all the girls speak bamboo English+ online translation. So who else would you want to talk to ???? . The neighbors refuse to speak to you... You ain't missing much. It's no look no talk for me.

Spot on.

Im in a detached house. On one side is the best dog in the world, loved by both its Thai and Belgian owner. It's constantly walked, cared for and trained. Never really hear a peep out of it.

On the other side are 2 small dads that constantly bark at everything and anything. The Thai owner doesn't even try to train them. They are really getting on everyone's nerves. Somebody jokingly said about "shutting them up". It wouldn't surprise me

My good friend back home had a small dog, one of those that will bark at anything.

So since he was in a civilized country, instead of blaming people for being annoyed by the sound of a barking dog, he bought one of those 'bark collar', which controlled the useless barking noise.

Electric Bark Collars

Pet-Tech is proud to present our advanced and effective electric collar dog solutions available in Australia. Respect and politeness is what it is all about.

What is even more bothersome is that all these owners of barking dogs, selfish as they are all, (or mostly), were taught to repeat ad nauseam all these annoying sounds and gestures,  that are meant that they do possess empathy, politeness, and respect.

Perhaps one of those ultrasonic device that trains dogs to be silent can work ?

"She assured that she regularly checks with nearby residents and has received feedback indicating minimal disturbance." Somehow I think it was a small sample size and she didn't check with everyone that was affected, particularly the person who sent the letter.

I have to agree with your last paragraph.  The selfish side to some thais is shocking. The thai attitude comes thru...
