Celebrating General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s birthday on 21st March, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, took to social media to laud the prominent former Prime Minister. Known affectionately as "Uncle Tu," General Prayut recently transitioned from his political career to serve as a Privy Councilor, an honorary position with the monarch’s advisory body.

Mr. Pirapan, expressing admiration, posted a heartfelt tribute on his personal Facebook account, alongside a photo of himself with General Prayut. He extolled Prayut’s enduring influence on his political journey, underscoring the deep respect and camaraderie shared between them. Pirapan's post celebrated Prayut's long-standing commitment to Thailand, illuminating the admiration he holds for Prayut's dedication to the nation.

"Although I have only worked closely with him for a while, I can clearly sense 'Uncle Tu''s intense love for the nation," Pirapan noted, portraying Prayut as both strong and gentle. He emphasised Prayut's compassion and his unyielding focus on the country's welfare. For over 30 years, Pirapan acknowledged Prayut as a political beacon, inspiring him through his devoted service to Thailand’s fundamental institutions.

This public expression of respect comes amidst the evolving political landscape in Thailand. General Prayut, having led the government through pivotal moments, remains a symbolic figure representing stability and continuity. His influence has permeated various aspects of governance and national security, a legacy Pirapan highlights with immense appreciation.

Furthermore, Pirapan’s message serves as a reminder of the traditional values intrinsic to Thai politics. His invocation of the Triple Gem and the royal power of historical Thai monarchs reflects a culturally ingrained practice of seeking divine support for national leaders. This reverence showcases a penchant for blending politics with spirituality, underlining the cultural framework within which Thai politics operates.

Pirapan concluded his tribute with best wishes for Prayut’s continued health and happiness. Expressing his desire for Prayut to remain a source of inspiration for the Thai people, Pirapan’s remarks echo the sentiments of many who view the general as a venerable anchor for Thailand’s socio-political structures.

In a nation where the political sphere often seems tempestuous, the birthday greeting from Pirapan not only honours General Prayut but also subtly reinforces the aspiration for enduring unity and progress within Thailand. As the country moves forward, figures like Prayut will likely continue to be called upon for their guidance and experience, underlying the respect held for seasoned leaders, reported Siam Rath.

What a sad little sycophant Piripan is.

There may be a lot of influential people to choose to suck up to, but Prayut is not on that list.

He's just a jumped up, out of work general who put Thailand into the hole that it is now in.

It would be a mistake to think that anyone in the Privy Council is "out of work".

😉

Definitely a huge load of butt kissing toward a man who set the nation back perhaps two decades. Prayut and Orawit were incredibly destructive forces, and nobody really knows what took place behind the scenes but I think at the very minimum a forensic investigation of their finances should take place, as it is likely he and his cronies walked away with billions.

I'll bet we wouldn't get taxed under Prayut.

11 years of stability.

Happy birthday general .

Please come back.

What a complete load of propaganda.

This man illegally took over the country at the point of a machine gun barrel and plunged it into democratic chaos as a result, just look now at the unelected senate blocking elected MPs from progressing any policies.

Meanwhile, god knows how many innocent people rot in jail still because they objected to his ugly upending of this country.

I look back fondly on Prayuth's tenure as head of government. He did well with Covid and those of us in Thailand enjoyed much more relative freedom of movement than did those in Europe, the US, and China. He controlled energy prices, walked a fine line between the US and China without falling into the control of China, roped in inflation, and, most importantly for me, he mostly left immigration rules unchanged. Things were better under Prayuth than they are now.

Not the only thing , but good enough.

He got his sister out too , eventually.

I cannot remember any of my Thai friends saying anything positive about Prayut, even friends who are government officials and those in the military.

"Uncle Tu's intense love for the nation". No wonder! He led an illegal coup, then stayed as PM for nine years and got stinking rich into the bargain.

It's only a matter of time before some soldier does the exact same thing again.

True, probably has about the same IQ as the Somchai in the street.

Living in Thailand during Covid was a lot better than in most other places.
