Is this the end of Five Eyes?

Featured Replies

Five Eyes, the most important intelligence network in the Western world, binds the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand into a tapestry of shared espionage.

But now it is unravelling. Witkoff has, allegedly, been wandering Moscow with his personal phone.

Russian intelligence will have penetrated his handset. as easily as the Saudi Arabians, and the other Gulf countries he has also visited. Every resident in Saudi or the UAE is famously aware that their communications are so bugged they can sometimes hear recordings of themselves mid-chat.

US-allied intelligence agencies will now be scrambling to try to figure out what secrets of theirs Witkoff may have stored on his phone.

The most important intelligence sharing network in the west is being ruined by America - here’s how

Questions now remain: How many other officials on the Signal chat were using their own personal phones?

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard refused to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee whether she was using a government-issued secure phone for the chat or her personal device.

The only conclusion that can be drawn is she and others in the US admin cannot be trusted to share intelligence.

Yes, and it should be. What is going on is disgraceful. It's like we re-elected a person who was twice impeached from Congress, was convicted of 31 felonies, etc. and we expect business as usual. No. I don't blame any of our allies for distrusting us at the moment.  The USA has essentially committed a decades-long painful suicide via the electoral college and on social media we were encouraged to do it.

Another one that ignores the OP to post off topic whining about the "wrong" people winning a democratic election.

Re the OP, if anyone thinks the west will stop spying because this particular organisation ends, they can buy a bridge from me, going cheap.

The US has joined Russia under traitor Trump so yes it's over.

The article suggests the 4 other countries in the 5 Eyes will be very cautious about sharing Intelligence with the US. Not that they will stop spying.

IMO, if any of them actually believe that anything they consign to the internet or any electronic medium, no matter the encryption, is not being read in Moscow or China, they deserve to be sat in the naughty corner with a dunce hat on.

In other words, unless they resort to printed media, hand delivered, it doesn't matter if they share anything with the US or not.

AI, even the primitive version we have now, will crack any encryption in the time it took to read this.

Why else does anyone think it's being developed? It sure ain't to make our lives better.

Is this the same alliance that Snowden exposed as being corrupt and unlawful?

Spare me.

Spare me.

I thought it is more recent than Snowden, but I have no doubt it is corrupt and possibly unlawful.

When a government organisation functions without transparency it is in it's nature to become corrupt. Even when they are transparent, too many are corrupt.

Personally I couldn't give a flying, the establishment will do what they do and we'll all suck it up, whinging forever and a day on the internet, passed caring.

NZ grows millions of pine trees to use commercially. NZ will be ecstatic if they did that.

Terrible transport costs, carbon tax, from the end of the world ( sorry NZ) to the rest of the globe.

Other countries are happy to take lots of NZ ex trees. Every day log trains transport thousands of ex trees to the port for export.

A major component of Five Eyes is Pine Gap in Australia; no it's not over. Allies will compensate for the idiocy of some members of the trump Administration.

Politeness is so 20th century.

The five eyes is super old, it always has been about the 9 eyes since decades with France, Germany, Netherlands and Norway. Generally speaking it would basically all rely on either Netherlands or Japan and Israel if it came to most digital intelligence or cyber security and warfare.

The western intelligence alliances will continue to operate - although it is likely they will be more circumspect in including the USA in their liaisons.

No doubt the cue in due course for cries and wails about nasty countries and post hangover declarations of contempt for "the Euros".

Can you put tariffs on information?

Yeah this stuff continues always has nothing to do with politics much anyway, as well that they selectively always try to hide certain things from one and another.
