Earthquake in Bangkok Causes Panic and Mayhem

Yes, here in upper Ladphrao my apartment was shaking significantly (I am at the top -6th floor). Not really comforting considering the build 'quality' of buildings here.

biggest I have seen here in decades. The rooftop pool of the condo next door dumped hundreds of gallons of water.

Glad i live in a house, all the condo dwellers are on the street in their underwear

I've heard people saying they've experienced it before on high floors in Bangkok, but today was the first time for me. (low floor) Building swaying for about 3 minutes & the pool water overflowing.

7.3 magnitude & epi-center in Myanmar. 😬

A high-rise building under construction in Chatuchak district collapsed due to the quake. Authorities are assessing the damage and monitoring for aftershocks.

Is earthquake insurance for building/condo owners standard?

Earthquakes are an "Act of God" and as such excluded from all standard policies.

You can get it from specialist insurers, but it would be very, very expensive. You would have to pay fortunes for specialist building surveys, etc.

Just returned from Thong Lor which experienced a fairly high earthquake tremor that was so intense the crane on the building site nearby was swaying some 4-5 minutes still after the quake.

Emergency services were dispatched to multiple High Rise condo's on Sukhumvit and Soi Thong Lor.

Thousands of people lined the streets and are still present as every building was evacuated.

rescue services reported many people trapped in lifts following the tremor.  Lifts have a fail safe system that operates when an earthquake is happening.

True but not a nice experience being stuck in a lift and not knowing what is going on.

I wonder why that building under construction collapsed?   So much less weight than finished and I thought the cement was the main structure?

I wonder how many buildings will be condemned?  And how did. cM fare being so much closer to the epicenter.  Or was it the liquifaction zone of BKK that made it worse.  I feel for those workers in the collapse.
