Thai Visa (Retirement)

I applied for a Retirement Visa 1 year with multiply entries, what they issued was a Retirement Visa 90 days single entry. I am coming over in June for a short stay, but have to return back home to sale house and finish moving. Can I get a re-entry stamp in Thailand or do I need to go through the visa process again?

They stopped issuing 1 year multi entry visas some time ago.  So you only get a single 90 day entry. 

 

If you're leaving and coming back within that 90 day period then you could get a re-entry permit.  But it's hardly worth it as you can get a 60 day visa exempt entry anyway.  Otherwise yes, you'll need to get another visa for the return trip, especially if it is your intention to then get an extension of stay once you're here.

You have a single entry non O based on retirement.

When you enter Thailand  you will receive a 90 day stamp.

If you need to exit and reenter within that period you would require a reentry permit. 1000b

 

Best to look at the bigger picture moving forward.

To live ongoing in Thailand you need to apply for 12 months extension.

That's actually what you should do this trip.

At very least if you do not have a Thai bank account you could open one with your Non O status.

Note Multi Entry Non O retirement is no longer available.

I notice plan of return to home country to sell up etc.

In hindsight it would have been better for the visit in June ("short stay") to have just come visa exempt entry.

The next time you return you have two options: 

1. Obtain new Non O and after arrival be given 90 day stamp and in last 30 days obtain a 12 month extension with funds having been in your Thai bank account for 2 months+

OR

2. Arrive in Thailand visa exempt and apply for Non O (retirement) at local immigration office.

The for 12 months extension same process as outlined in first option #1

 

Do you currently have a Thai bank account in your name only.

Yes I have a Thai bank account in my name only I think I still have. was planning on moving funds in June was going to use the monthly income method does that still require my name only?

Does your embassy provide income letter?

If not you need to use funds in bank method.

Regardless of method the bank account needs to be in your name only.

to do the monthly deposit methoyou need 12 consecutive months of at least 65K Thai baht and then you can change from the 800K or 400K whichever you have at that time unless your embassy does provide the income letter.

For monthly income method you shall use a non-O visa from abroad, you cannot change a visa exempt to non-O without a Thai bank 800k baht deposit.

And yes, only your name in the bank account for the monthly not less than 65k baht transfer.

He does not have a property in Thailand, he will be returning home after a short stay to sell his house.

There are no tax hassles here, only a lot of noise and predictions that know one yet knows the outcome of.

30 years and no immigration harrassment and can't say I've ever been cheated, unless you count having to pay inflated prices at the Tiger zoo. When I was working full time, showing my social security card would get a "Thai" entry.

What's your story, do you live in Thailand and why are you so bitter that you would try and discourage someobne else from living here?
