tariffs are back on mobile phones, computers and other electronics from China, he just said he will re-install them... it appears the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing

Lutnick said that the technology exemption was only put in place temporarily until the administration can write a new policy for those goods.

He's rigging the market, making his friends rich. They will be informed in time before he makes announcements, so they know when to buy or sell.

The USA produced about 680,000 tonnes of aluminium in 2024. Demand for aluminium in the same year was 5 million tonnes.

Trump's tariff of 25% on imported aluminium commenced early in March.

Aluminium production needs bauxite, and cheap electricity. The US has limited supplies of bauxite, and expensive electricity. The bauxite it has is used in making abrasives.

So a US manufacturer of aircraft, or pots and pans, can swallow the cost of the tariffs, or pass those costs on to end users.

As an example of sheer economic dumbf***kery, that takes some beating.

I just wonder how the MAGA's on ASEAN justify this BS.

Turmoil over Trump's tariffs.

Paul Sadoff owns Rock Lobster Cycles, which makes custom bikes that ship worldwide from Santa Cruz, California.

“This whole uncertainty over ‘tariffs are here, tariffs are gone’ has been damaging on its own,” he told The Post. “My orders have certainly slowed. Why would someone in Japan or Australia or Canada order an American bike if things could change dramatically again next week? It’s like everything is frozen.”

Trump claims that the new tariffs were part of a plan to boost American manufacturing, even though less than 10 percent of Americans work in factories, and manufacturers consistently report they have problems filling vacancies.

Since 2000, 4.5 million factory jobs have been lost.

Suzanne Shriner is the President of Lions Gate Farms, which sells coffee grown in Hawaii to customers in Asia and Europe.

“When you lay out tariffs and yank them back, over and over, the threat of it wears off and turns into an unwillingness to work with American companies,” she told The Post. “We’ve been exporting internationally for 20 years, and all of a sudden our markets are closing up.”

Fox Rothschild international trade attorney Lizbeth Levinson told The Post. “Businesses are putting everything on hold,” she added. “They literally can’t plan from one day to the next.”

Trump claims he wants to boost American manufacturing. But the industry is already in chaos over his tariffs

Behind the constant flipflopping there is the nagging question regarding nostalgia in the US for the manufacturing era post WW2. At that time there was little competition amongst the rest of the world, but times have changed.

if companies really did start producing I-phones in the US only, how much would they cost?

Wedbush's Dan Ives claimed an Apple I phone produced in the US ,could cost $3500, and it would take over three years and $30 billion just for Apple to move 10% of its supply chain to the US.

Like you give a crap about some guy that makes bikes that the left would only want made illegal anyway. I hate loud Harley type of bikes. If you are trying to get a rise out of me talk about avocados.

Of course the tariff strategy is unpredictable. That is largely by design.

I feel that in a way or an other, the Trump's era will end badly, for the US populace first.

The Apprentice was created by British television producer Mark Burnett, and co-produced with Donald Trump, who was the show's host for the first fourteen seasons.

Interesting to compare this man with the "presenter" of th British version, Alan Sugar. No love lost between the two men, and Sugar has been quite critical of the tariffs (he built his main business on import-export). He also got into poitiics, in a very different way.

If that did happen, then how I-Phones were supplied would change. People would no longer buy an i-phone. Instead, one would be supplied as part of a service agreement, to be returned at the end of the agreement (recycled). Likely Apple would get into the business of providing a cell phone service, looking to acquire one of the providers. The cost of calls and data would increase.

Then you believe that the chaos is his plan?

Perhaps if the price devaluing in barrel selling price may indeed bankrup Russia war

I did that...

You could always just wait for the DJT admin to announce the terms, rather than repeat speculation, rumour or bit of gossip thats going around.

Because there's nothing businesses love more than unpredictability. It relieves them of the tiresome possibility of making rational investments in their businesses.

You sound like a creationist arguing for intelligent design. Nothing businesses like more than unpredictability.

Here's a straw in the wind for you. China, South Korea and Japan are holding tripartite trade talks. This is after decades of US diplomacy getting Japan and South Korea as a counterbalance to China in Asia.

It just demonstrates what a blithering idiot Trump is.

Pray continue with your delusions, they are amusing.

And then there's the UK which had joined the Trans Pacific Trade Agreement. The one that Trump pulled the US out of.

Chinese state media announced on April 11 that President Xi Jinping will pay state visits to Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia from April 14-18, aiming to deepen “all-round cooperation” with neighbouring countries.

Notably, all three Southeast Asian nations were targeted with now-paused reciprocal tariffs by the Trump administration – 49 per cent on Cambodian goods, 46 per cent on Vietnamese exports and 24 per cent on products from Malaysia.

On April 8, the president of the European Commission held a call with China’s premier, during which both sides jointly condemned US trade protectionism and advocated for free and open trade.

They can't justify it. Any facts given to them by any source is quickly dismissed as a lie or just "Trump hate"  or propoganda. They can never supply any information to support their claims.
