In Pathum Thani, central Thailand, a severe road rage incident involving a local political figure's son has captivated public attention and sparked outrage. On 16th April, dashcam footage spread across social media showed a white BMW sedan forcing a black pickup truck into a violent crash on a motorway. The footage was shared by the Facebook page Here on Board, illuminating an altercation that has left one man severely injured.

The video reveals a distressing sequence: a brand new BMW aggressively weaving through traffic, targeting the pickup truck driven by an elderly man. The confrontation originally erupted at a toll gate when the BMW driver, reportedly the son of an influential local politician and a candidate in the upcoming local government elections, attempted to cut in line. The pickup driver, refusing to concede, spurred the ire of the BMW driver.

Witnesses reported that despite the pickup driver’s subsequent apology for the toll gate disagreement, the BMW driver disregarded this gesture of reconciliation. The footage distinctly shows the BMW persistently tailing the pickup, ultimately side-swiping it and causing the pickup to lose control and slam into a traffic barrier, inflicting serious injuries upon its driver.

The elderly pickup driver sustained broken ribs and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). His wife, who was also in the vehicle, suffered minor injuries. In stark contrast, the BMW driver emerged from the incident physically unscathed and exited his vehicle without delay.

Esor News further revealed additional dashcam evidence, highlighting the BMW’s reckless driving just before the collision. Another motorist captured the BMW travelling at excessive speeds, swerving recklessly, and narrowly avoiding a crash with a footpath, corroborating claims of dangerous driving leading up to the crash.

The public outcry has been immediate and fierce, especially given the political nuances surrounding the BMW driver. As the son of a significant political figure in Pathum Thani, and a candidate himself, the incident has entered the realm of political discourse, prompting calls for transparency and justice.

Local authorities have yet to issue a formal statement regarding potential charges or legal actions against the BMW driver, fuelling further frustration and the perception of preferential treatment due to his political ties. Social media platforms are rife with demands for accountability, with residents vocalising concerns over safety and questioning the integrity of local leadership.

This incident, while deeply personal for those directly involved, touches on broader social issues within the region, casting a spotlight on road safety, ethical behaviour, and the influence of political connections in judicial proceedings. As the story unfolds, the community remains vigilant, eager for a resolution that upholds justice and deters future misconduct, reported The Thaiger.

Anutin says the BMW driver must be punished regardless of the family. We'll see 🤔FB_IMG_1744949286272.jpg.143bf0875ef6255912bf9f26bd9ab1f2.jpg

This fella is involved now, looking for justice for the victims. He has a good track record, regularly on the Thai news when police won't investigate crime etc.FB_IMG_1744949317166.jpg.5080f459b719f56be5c00fbd3e0ddcb1.jpg

The news really ought to release the BMW driver's name so people will know who not to vote for in the coming election.

So what would appropriate punishment be (apart from: Strung up by his balls for 3 weeks)?

I'm thinking:

- 10 years in prison without bail or early release, for attempted murder

- loss of d/l for life, DIC

- ฿1 million compensation tbpaid to the injured old man & his wife

- ineligibility for life to any government employment, elected or otherwise.

The did yesterday. From the BKK Post.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Smitthipat Leenawarat, 28. He is a younger brother of Manasanan Leenawarat, a Pheu Thai MP for Pathum Thani, and his father is Thanyaburi mayor Krissada Leenawarat. Mr Smitthipat is running for a seat in the tambon Thanyaburi municipal council in next month’s elections.

I hope so... However, for many victims, compensation is often mistaken for justice.

Cases like this demand custodial sentences - otherwise, it will simply serve as another reprehensible reminder of how the wealthy and well-connected are allowed to escape the consequences of their entitled behavior.

No doubt he had a gun in the vehicle as well.

It's entirely possible - though I suspect the police didn't even bother checking.

This is exactly the kind of character who would brandish a gun in anger, threatening someone over a perceived slight. Think of figures like Chalerm Yubamrung's sons and their long-documented history of questionable behavior.

And, as many are pointing out, there's been no mention of DUI checks yet... Has the BiB even bothered to take this cockroach into custody yet?

Daddy will pay for a new Pick-Up plus Hospital Costs, many Wai's and ok Son off you go again and try to stay away from those irritating 'ordinary' people will you !

Disappeared?  Now that is a surprise,

The 28 year old son of the mayor of Thanayaburi - Smitthipat Leenavarat, lost his cool and slammed his brand new BMW into a pick-up truck, injuring the driver who ended up in ICU. Smitthipat has reportedly ‘disappeared’ and social media has been digging out his information and was the most read and forwarded news on April 17, 2025.

Fat chance...

The only thing that's more corrupt and perhaps even more morally bankrupt that a politician is the offspring of a politician. They grow up with this incredible sense of entitlement, and a grossly overblown sense of self and they somehow feel like they are above any and all laws. Most are truly obnoxious human beings, and the very definition of an empty suit. Of course the same applies to 99% of politicians worldwide.

Iam politician's   son  (Hi So) I can do what I want .

Yes you can go to Jail you Maggot.

Seems a lot of you forget - This IS Thailand.

Where you can get away with murder by simply bribing the victim's family so they won't press charges (seriously).

A simple accident like this will like result in a small, thin envelope being offered to the old man who will be advised that it would be in his best interest to accept the envelope and forget the incident ever happened.

And that will be the end of it.

Because THAT is how it is done - IN Thailand.

So the “ Do you know who I am “ is clear because the mother told him who is the father.

Or did she?

Wan Kanchai is on the case - I’m told daddy’s boy is done (eventually) as a result - too much publicity, police forced to act.  That seems to be the Thai sentiment, at least.

The Politician Father smiling and posing for a picture with a basket over the injured victim in their hospital bed is kind of disgusting, in fact it should be illegal.

The little grub was complaining about a camera man hitting his precious little head yesterday.

There's also more dashcam footage emerged of the manic driving dangerously prior to this incident.

He has been named and shamed...Smitthiphat Leenawarat.   But what "political future" when he's not a politician?
