Same thing that happened when Japan landed in WW2, most rolled over like a dog wanting a belly rub

"This alarming trend points to a broader societal issue that spans beyond the military, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive drug rehabilitation programs across the country."

Recently I was at a relativley posh restaurant with a bunch of expats, a generation or two after me. Did I feel old! They talked about cocaine (crack) as if it was a candy bar you can purchase at you local 7-11. No stigma attached to purchasing or snorting crack. Just a part of modern life that I really don't want to participate in. I guess I will have to live in my dinasour-bubble.

A lot of the Thai conscripts, after doing their basic ten-week training, get no more proper training and are used as cheap labour for doing mundane jobs for the higher ranks.

This is a waste of tax payer's money and a waste of the young Thai lads time, most senior UK military NCOs would not like composery service, as they would be wasting their time on people who do not want to be there and wasting the military budget, that could be put to better training and equipment.
If the Thai government want to continue with conscription, they would be better off making the recruits do their ten weeks of training  than making them reservists doing two weekend's of training a month for two years, saving money, and the lads could find jobs and start a career.

Look at it this way: the family has no where to turn with young Somchai doing his thing with all the peer pressure around him. No guiding adult in his life (they're all busy working or on drugs themselves). The nuclear family is disappearing in thai society. He turns to his buddies for relationships and a common theme amongst them is: feel good... any way to achieve that be it alcohol, sex, or drugs. You can say that about many drug conflicted countries.

You can't get addicted to weed. It's yabba/crystal meth that they're talking about...

Ok, but I think you are high.

No mention of any long term success, they openly sell and  use drugs, and I suggest the added stress of military service doesn't help addiction, in fact could make it worse.

I guess next you'll tells us you can't get addicted to nicotine.

Just 5 second search.

"Yes, it is possible to become addicted to cannabis. About 10% of people who begin smoking cannabis will become addicted, and 30% of current users meet the criteria for addiction.

The risk of addiction is higher for those who start using cannabis in adolescence."

They would offer them some yabba and then go out to rape or shoot someone. Invade Thailand haha... Foreigners invade Thailand every day. Then invade Thai women who are willing.

This year, it is estimated that of the approximately 80,000 conscripted individuals, the overwhelming majority are drug users, and a concerning 10% are severely addicted.

Speaks volumes about Thai society in general.

Yeah and you know what? That is also the reason why so many Thai men turn gay...

Have you ANY evidence to support that assertion. With all the available pretty girls around I think the young men are more likely to turn into sex maniacs
