In a sweeping crackdown on illegal activities involving foreign nationals in Thailand's popular southern islands, a French man and a Russian woman were apprehended by local authorities for separate offences, drawing attention to the ongoing challenges of managing expat behaviour in tourist hotspots.

 

Pascal Patrick, a 56-year-old French national residing at the KPG Suite Dream hotel in Koh Phangan, was arrested after police received a tip-off about his questionable conduct. According to Pol Lt Col Winit Boonchit, from the Tourist Police Division 5, Patrick was allegedly working without a permit and reportedly indulged in excessive drinking. His fondness for displaying firearms and knives to hotel guests had raised concerns about his behaviour.

 

A search conducted by a combined force of tourist police and local officials uncovered an arsenal in the hotel’s reception area, including three BB guns, various knives, sickles, brass knuckles, short swords, and machetes. More alarmingly, sachets of MDMA, psilocybin mushrooms, and a Runtz-brand cannabis vape were found during the raid. Authorities also discovered four motorcycles and a car on the premises, linked to Patrick's unauthorised rental business.

 

During interrogation, Patrick admitted to possessing the drugs, claiming they were a gift from a friend after a Full Moon Party. He also confessed to running the hotel and rental services in the absence of his wife, who resides in Chiang Mai, and stressed that the BB guns were merely part of a personal collection. Charged with multiple offences including possession of illegal narcotics and working unlawfully, Patrick now faces legal proceedings at Koh Phangan police station.

 

On the same day in Koh Samui, tourist police teamed up with Bo Phut police officers to arrest a Russian woman, Ms Elena, for illegally selling e-cigarettes. Following an investigation that pinpointed her as the vendor of vaping products on the messaging app Telegram, law enforcement set up a sting operation. An undercover informant arranged a meeting with Ms Elena and received several disposable e-cigarettes, leading to her immediate arrest.

 

Authorities confiscated 10 Solo Bar e-cigarettes in various flavours, underlying the seriousness with which the local police are treating the illegal sale of vaping products. Elena was charged with customs violations and selling untaxed goods and is being processed at Bo Phut police station.

 

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to regulate and enforce the law among expatriates and tourists, ensuring that public safety and adherence to local laws are maintained. The cases of Patrick and Elena serve as cautionary tales for foreigners in Thailand, reminding them of the severe repercussions of violating local laws.

How did she fall for selling dodgy tapes to Thais? She wouldn't. Therfore we can conclude the Thai police have farang undercover; plain clothes people working for/with them.

unfortunately, those people never subscribed to AN. Did they live in a dream? Like if we were still in the 1990s. ( yes, I know ,vaping wasn't a thing at that time)

Any hardware store. In the old days they were used for cutting rice, but can be used for cutting back any vegetation. I dare say I have 2/3 lying around in my tool shed if I was to look.

 

Perhaps not quite so useful when residing in a Samui hotel however.
