You guys still listen to analogue radio?

  • I'm sure you are one of those who can answer that question yourself

I just learned that the Flashback presenter Bill Rollins, to whom I listen every Friday night because of his Beach Boys slot, and who invites emails to ask for requests, died six months ago. No wonder

I live in a very bad reception area  so don't listen to the radio much   but 103 is

one of the stronger signals    but It does seem to go off air  quite often for varying lengths of time  not sure if it's a transmitter problem or the link from their studio to the transmitter..

Its transmitting at the moment I type this.

Nothing about it in FM103 news today but usually have the reason for the outage the following day. I only follow the youtube channel.

Radio Five Live sports extra. Test Match Special.

103 FM was very much on the air between 11:00 and 13:00 today when I was driving around the area.

I think we discovered it's back... Thanks

Tommy Dee had a stroke a while back.  He's mostly recovered but I'd guess that's why it's up for sale.

I have had some "fun" listening to analogue radio 2 meter amateur band

with a SDR  dongle,

there's much more in the digital realm  but  as I said  I'm in a bit of a radio black spot  so  haven't really had  much success  I tried DAB radio 100% fail  couldn't even find any info about a service in the Pattaya area only Bangkok frequencies.

Ahh the joys of a tropospheric  lift  I was amazed to receive French national TV TF1 in north London  with just a normal antenna pointed at Chrystal Palace

on a couple of occasions..I think I even had a VHS tape of it  but god knows were that went to,,probably taped over with some Red Hot Dutch output ! 😋

You are on the internet to access this thread, so can listen to the said radio channel clearly over the internet?

thats pretty random... do "MAGA clowns" listen to Thailand radio stations ?

Its not about the listening  its about the technicalities involved in receiving them

in the first place.

Yes, setting it up is too much messing about. I usually turn on the analog radio in my near 20 year old truck only on Sundays as I drive into town for a weekly shop. Couldn't get either of the English channels last Sunday...103 had a very weak signal, 96FM was being stamped on.

You mean its about the challenge of trying to use 50 year old tech in today's world of internet radio stations? OK, I can see it as a niche hobby I guess for those into that sort of thing.

If you've got a reasonably modern infotainment system in your car then you can always go to the radio station live website on your phone:

https://alwayspattaya.com/radiochannel/fabulous-103-fm/

and play it on your car's speakers. As 103 FM has a limited range, when I'm driving further away than Nong Nuch or Laem Chabang that's what I usually do. Of course, you can play almost any radio station that way, but I find keeping up with the Pattaya news and the same old music as always is kind of comforting when I'm driving in Isaan or Surat Thani.

Yes its the "thrill of the chase"

I don't use 50 year old tech  much easier with a

Software Defined Radio  you can eavesdrop on all sorts of communications

there is much more than just broadcast stations..

It's hot and cold.....on air, off air.

It only has to look like rain and the FM Signal goes down.

I'd say it needs a lot of money spent on the hardware, it's often reported that a lightning strike took the signal down.

Could do with some surge protection.

I'm sure a year or two ago it was reported on 103 all FM licenses in Thailand would not be renewed or something similar

Good luck with the sale

After the last coup  they shut almost all the "local community" radio stations

sighting licencing or rather lack of licenses   so they made "everyone" jump through the hoops to get licensed...not sure if they have a switch off date for FM

87-108 MHZ  yet  or whether there will be a DAB replacement ??

Radio I live in Chiang Mai I used to listen to 98.5 all the time it was English and I think some of the people there were probably from England  or listening to the BBC news and now I can’t seem to get any signal there don’t even know what happened to that station in Chiang Mai

Caroline Flashback when there are no presenters, just continuous music, LBC for a bit of Chat & debate, and Classic FM to go to sleep with. Heaven.  PC or phone.

Why not if it is there, easy on the car radio. Or of course, have all your stations in your phone, and Bluetooth it to said radio. Perfect.
