A road crash claimed the life of a 13-year-old schoolgirl on the morning of 29 May,in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, when a motorcycle she was riding pillion on collided with a lorry. CCTV footage captured the incident, which occurred at approximately 07:00 on Noen Rai Song Road in Moo 10, Thung Sukhla subdistrict.

The young victim, Kanokorn Sochada, a student at Laem Chabang Municipal School 3, was on her way to school with her mother, Ms. Wiphanee Nawanlueksakorn, 47, who was driving the motorcycle. While attempting to navigate around a roadside rubbish bin, their black Honda Wave 125 clipped the lorry, causing them to lose control and crash.

Warning CCTV shows the crash.

Ms. Wiphanee sustained minor injuries and was seen in a state of profound distress at the scene, crying inconsolably while holding her daughter’s lifeless body. The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered severe head trauma after being run over by the lorry’s rear wheels. She was still dressed in her Girl Scout uniform.

Emergency services from Sawang Prateep Si Racha Rescue Centre responded swiftly, and police investigators led by Pol. Lt. Col. Peerapong Noochana from Laem Chabang Police Station were dispatched to the scene.

Mr. Sochada, the girl’s father, arrived shortly afterward, having rushed from work upon being notified by school staff. Visibly heartbroken, he stood in silence over his daughter’s body. He later explained that under normal circumstances, he would take his daughter to school, but as he was working this morning, her mother had taken her instead.

Eyewitness Ms. Sukanya Kaewsot, 35, a local resident, said she heard a loud crash and came outside to find the devastated mother cradling her daughter. “Someone told me to call emergency services. When the mother turned, I saw the girl’s condition and knew she had died on the spot,” she said.

CCTV footage confirmed that the motorcycle had been riding parallel to the lorry before veering slightly to avoid an obstacle and making contact. The collision caused both riders to be thrown from the vehicle, the mother to the left side of the road, and the child into the path of the lorry.

Police have launched a formal investigation, collecting evidence and witness statements at the scene.

Always a very bad place to be on a motorcycle the left side of a large

vehicle ..

Unfortunately it was mostly the mothers fault with maybe poor road condition contributing.

 R.I.P poor kid.

I can think of two kids on motorbikes killed by these kinds of trucks on stretch of road in Chiang Mai. Those two accidents were trailers and the kids get stuck between the two sections, maybe saw a gap out of the corner of their eye and moved in to it.

Thai people are too conformable driving extremely close to each other. This girl like most people would just casually drive along side it and not think anything of it. RIP.

One of the very few times I ever got hurt on my road bike one of those very long bedded trucks passed me and slowly started to push me off the side of the narrow 2 lane road. Got very close to having to jump off into the irrigation ditch. I got so angry I drafted him for a couple of kilometers and found him parked at a bar, and yes he was visibly drunk even. Maybe the only time I ever yelled at a Thai person but nothing came of it because he knew he was drunk and driving.

Then everyone riding behind just ignored them and kept driving ?

I've watched lots of car dash cam crashes compilations in Thailand and this is way more normal than you would think.

I'm often surprised how few Thais stops and help – for example call for ambulance – when an accident happens.

13 year old on a bike, no helmet as usual, the parents should be arrested!

Where did you get that from. Her mother was driving her to school. Missing a proton?

She was pillion of course in this case. But more often than not, you  will see 2 or 3 girls on a bike, a 13 year old driving, and no helmets. Was thinking this as I was at the 7-11 at school chucking out time just the other day.

So sad.

That helmet law enforcement isn't coming fast enough. Not that this would have helped matters, her being driven over, but it would save many lives protecting heads, and if she was wearing a good helmet, might have saved hers.

In my early days in Thailand, helmet wearing was actually more common. Certainly on the highway roads and in town. But then there were also police at major junctions pulling people over who didn't. Last 3 or 4 years, lack of policing has led to  lack of obeyance.
