Somewhat off topic but Immigration actually does have a pretty well functioning system, which in at least one case solved a crime. 

 

My daughter was visiting Thailand and shopping in an upscale department store. Her wallet was stolen and the dope who stole it was dumb enough to pay for a purchase with his credit card after stealing her wallet. Security identified him and viewed his act of stealing the wallet via the store's security cameras, and ID'd the thief via his credit card. He was a tourist and Immigration gave security his hotel information. Within 2 hours the wallet was returned.

I agree, BUT the farang will lose face. lol Police come, everyone takes pictures, everyone talks, farang dragged out....pointed at, arrested, nobody says overstay so nobody knows...

as crazy as my answer is, I can see the police note the farang's presence and maybe arrest him once off hotel property.

I do think we all agree the system CAN work, but .......  once I met a very angry couple, money stolen, video proved it was the cleaning staff, she fled back to Myanmar, many trips to police station, they still left very upset.  hotel didn't get in trouble.  who knows what really happened.   gotta get that money back before it's spent.  lol

Wheres the 20k baht from? That's the current max fine, you think the IO is handing it all over? If they lifted the max limit on the fine then it might make sense

I really wouldn't worry, aside from the fact that I live (totally legally) at the other end of the country. The much vaunted BMW smart camera cars didn't really work, I believe that our local one broke down (cam belt?) after 6 months and has been gathering dust at the back of a police station since then. Any way, face recognition? We all look the same!

I suspect a person looking at a deportation, detention plus a 20 k fine and 5 year blacklist could pay more. Why are you being obtuse, a  thousand baht to a hotel worker  is what might be needed?

What happened to the expensive BMW "Smart Car" campaign from 2020? it was  introduced with great fanfare and promoted as a solution. The vehicles were described as having inbuilt alerts and tracking systems as well a live connection to database-driven information linked to the country’s biometric system. One of the vehicles  was involved in the apprehension of a 57-year-old disabled man from Belgium using a walking frame for mobility near Burapha University Hospital. In another takedown, a 54-year old Sudanese national walking on a Pattaya sidewalk was stopped. And a 63-year old Australian the authorities called the  ‘hiding kangaroo’  was identified as he walked on the side the road. Is this what is in store for Pattaya?

They are still around... I see them often on the M7 traveling between BKK and PTY.

One wonders if the companies awarded these hi-tec razzamatazz contracts show their appreciation to those who awarded them? Like a nice bouquet or a jar of chicken essence.                                     The nice new flashing sign at the entrance to Walking Street should make it safe from the drunkards bent on causing havoc and giving Pattaya's reputation as a family destination a bad name. How much did it cost again?

Eye in the sky can spot ongoing crimes outdoor. But how they can identify overstating aliens?  Their uav linked to the record of each one's arrival date and face photos? After recent switching to digital arrival card, do they still photograph the entrants?

It's not obtuse, it's plain, simple logic, is it worth an employee risking their employment by looking out for their employer's interest over 1k baht for themselves? And if the person is only a few days over then it's not even worth the IO offering the reward....

So if they don't go to major events they're alright? The cops just told them what the strategy is. Bright.

Boots on the ground, not hiding in their offices, is what they truly need.

In a clarifying statement, Pattaya officials note that only observation drones, bomber drones, and kamikaze drones will be used.

 

Flame thrower drones will not be used due to the hazards inherent in fire.

Read Thaiger and Pattaya Mail story and no mention of cost.

 

Maybe get the Police to actually do some effective Patrolling and not hide behind a video screen remote operating a drone.

Seriously if they can't see the thousands of Thais not wearing helmets but catch the Foreigners how can you expect them

to use this effectively.  Sorry to say but unless someone in Authority is putting pressure on the Boys in Brown to execute than

it will be a new tech gadget to play with that will probably be crashed, blown away in the wind, or broken and take a long time
