A 46-year-old Russian man, wanted by Interpol for drug trafficking and transnational crime, has been apprehended in Phuket.

On 27th June, under the National Police and Immigration Bureau's initiative, a significant arrest was made.

Phuket immigration officials, in collaboration with the Russian consulate, detained the suspect following a tip-off about his involvement in drug sales to Russian clients via online platforms.

The suspect, Mr Igor, under an Interpol RED NOTICE for major drug offences and links to organised crime, was found hiding in Phuket.

Police Colonel Kriengkrai Ariayang led the investigation and confirmed Mr Igor's arrest, initially charging him with overstaying his visa.

After his rights were explained, Mr Igor will be processed further by investigators, with plans to repatriate him according to legal protocols.

Phuket's immigration office emphasised their ongoing efforts to tackle crimes involving foreign nationals, aiming to ensure the safety and confidence of both tourists and residents.

Does this mean he will get a slap on the wrist and on the first plane home or some time at the Bangkok Hilton?

I remember reading before that the only Russians who could afford to run and hide in Phuket etc when the war started were all the dodgy ones involved in some form of dubious crime to amas wealth allowing them to flee.

Good work. I’m sure there are more where this one came from.

If they would just continue the so called crackdown on a continuous basis then over some time it will do some good.

If they do it for a week and stop, which is what they have stated they will do, they might as well not bother in the first place

Anyone named Igor.....should be banned...lol

no certainly not! first he must stay in police-cell for process everything, after to immigration detention centre and there's a big cage whith everyone inside!

my friend had to stay there a few days, that was nót sanuk! there's people inside for months/years! hardcore stuff!

my friend learned there an important lesson...

but this Russian guy eventually will be deported back to Russia: with a red alert Interpol how could he stay in Phuket that long, never mind overstay...?

That describes all Russians above the working class.

Fugitives are dumb as a bucket of rocks to come here to get their passports scanned just to get nabbed when there are other countries that don’t have extradition treaties.

Good, send the message to other Russians they're not liked in Thailand just bacause they've got a visa. Most other countries despise them and don't give them visas, but they're not emploed by TAT.
