Body Donation/Disposal of Farang Senior Upon Death

Featured Replies

I have been looking online and it seems the age limit is 65 at Thai Red Cross, Bangkok. I am 76 and married, but there is a chance I might outlive my Thai wife and be all alone. So I'd like to take care of business. I also reside in Chiang Mai part of the year, so I could go at either location.

So...where can I sign up to have somebody take care of my body after I pass? I have no preference for burial or cremation, just the easiest most trouble-free cost effective disposal. I know everybody says "I'm in good health"...but regarding being in good health for medical donation...I still train almost every day, maintain a resting heart-rate of 50  BPM, BP 112/70, body fat 10%, and pretty much avoid all 'animal' products...fresh fruits and vegetables are my primary food source.

I know..."who gives a sh#t"...! Dead is dead.

Looking for advice regarding my passing here in LOS.

Thanks in advance.

Can I have that nice guitar when you go, please?

That was a real beauty. A 1966 Gibson Byrdland. Gibson built 10,000 guitars in 1966, and only 45 completely hand carved/hand built Byrdlands. I bought it in San Francisco in 2003, and sold it in 2013, but I still miss it.

This place can arrange everything, including paperwork with your Embassy  (important if you have any assets or entitlements in your home country, or relatives who might every need to prove you are dead for any reason) and you can prepay for it. While the site talks about funerals, they can and will arrange  no frills local cremation without funeral.  (though if your wife is still living she might be more conmfortable having at least basic Buddhist ceremony).

My Thai wife was concerned about being unable to pay for my funeral. She has friends whose falang husbands turned alcoholic, drinking all their savings. She took out Life Insurance with www.ThaiLife.com. She also took out policies for her mother and uncle. Thai Life paid out promptly, without any arguments, when her mother recently passed away.

I owned a Gibson Les Paul copy, still at school 👍

I used to rock out some awesome ac/dc and other great music.

Smoke on the water, was my first hit. 😂

Don't fret. You have to have some pluck to do that.

You can donate your body to Chulalongkarn University, where it will be used for research and/or instruction for medical students.  There are some exclusions though:  body too decayed, rabies, HIV, Hep B and C, active TB, advanced state of cancer, radioactive implants within last six months, death due to accident where possible legal issues are involved.  You'll have to prearrange or have your executor coordinate for travel of your body to the University.  They'll have 20 days to do what they will, after which they'll cremate whatever is left and provide ashes to whomever you stipulate.  Only cost is the freight to get you there.  This is about as no frills as it gets in Thailand.  You'll have to go to Chula University to register, but only takes a few minutes to do so.  Make sure to bring your passport.  For more info call them at 02-256-4751 or 02-256-4281.

I think you rest assured that if you pass on when you are on your own someone will take care of the remains. If they didn't there would be a pretty foul smell.

Plus body weight range must be between 40 and 80kg. Unsure whether that's when you sign up or when you are delivered to the University?

I hope it is most of them for their sake!

PS; I assume you mean lbs and not kg with your "under 200" comment!

Back in 1992 I was 250 lbs. Started having all kinds of serious health issues and warning signs. A year later I was 150 lbs, and at age 43, felt like an 18 year old. Today I am still 150 lbs.

If I did this, now at 91, I would most probably get rejected as being well past my Best Before date and being Unfit for Human Dissection.😀

They are hard to find. I had only seen photos on the web. In 2003 I was flying back to the Bay Area from Bkk for a couple of weeks, and after doing some research, found some interesting inventory at Phil's Guitars  in South San Francisco.

I drive out to his store, and sitting behind the counter with his feet up, was Phil...noodling on his Brydland. It was like seeing Elvis at the supermarket...I was speechless. "Not for sale" he said.

I went back to his shop 3 times before I finally wore him down, and flew home with 'the Byrd'.

Well, good for you that 91 is your number today, I can only hope.

Sheryl mentions a site/company (that I have not checked), that will take care of everything, but at a cost. Depends on how fancy you want to go.

For me, no fuss. A quick ceremony at the local Wat. Half my ashes to be scattered in Sattahip Bay to join my mother, who passed away here in 2000. The remainder, sent back to the UK to be scattered where my first wife's ashes are scattered.
