Win Big in Thailand: Foreigners Welcome to Try Their Luck in the Lottery

I wouldn't buy a lottery ticket while the Government Savings Bank has a more attractive lottery scheme. The top prize is 30 million Baht. Tiny interest rate but as I invest a lot I win small amounts on a regular basis.

From their website:

GSB Special savings certificate for 2 years, draw: 100 baht per unit. Have a chance to win prizes every month for 24 months. The first prize is 30 million baht and many other prizes. Tax-exempt for interest earned and prizes for individuals. At the maturity date, the principal and interest will be automatically transferred to a deposit account (linked account)

The lottery and the one remaining horse racing track in Bangkok, are exceptions.

Why search for numbers, if the draw is legitimate every number has an equal chance of winning.

How many wins have you had with other countries' lotteries ?

With euro lottery some win between every 5-10 times doing it . Not that I do it very much.

The winners!  And those that think  the chance of 10-30 times the prize is worth it.

🙄🙄🙄

Buying lotteries every two weeks, often win 4,000 - 8,000. In 2016 won the 2nd prize - 200,000 Baht. First, thought, if I'm a foreigner, maybe they won't give me my prize. Seeing like vendors would want to get 5% from my winning sum, learnt that the Lottery Office charges only 1,1% taxes, I went there and they gave me all the money, even 4,000 up, without any questions or problems.

Yes, I have my account there too. Within 8 months, 5 months of winning 800 baht every time. A year and 4 months are ahead.

They obviously are not buying the right tickets.

You have to have a system, and a little bit of luck, to win the big one.

Me, in 2016. The 2nd prize.

Wonder, what would happen if a foreigner, particularly a Westerner, ever won the jackpot... Would they really, without much bickering, pay out 6 million baht?

Of course not!

Well done.

You have to look at the numbers of the previous 5 draws and get yer system in place. It's not hard. But takes a bit of time. The lucky bit is finding the winning numbers. But there are 1000s of venders so it can be done.

When Kham Chanod was in full swing, there were over100 lottery girls all lined up. I think the 6 million ticket has come from there three times.

Just buying any old ticket is a waster of time and money; IMO.

There were rumours a long time ago that’ some yanks had rigged and won the lottery, don’t recall the details or if it was true, Bernard Trink would know

Only if you want it to be.

Years ago the winners of the jackpot, quite wisely in my opinion never appeared in the media, all that seems to have changed since the advent of social media.. If I won I would tell nobody, not even the mrs

As the lottery is run by the government, it stands to reason, it is for the government.

based on the replies in here maybe they really do need to increase the immigration standards.  That's 185k usd, not even worth a blurb in the newspaper.

6 million is hardly a life changing amount

Agreed, but better than poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Cheaper to play foreign laundries and the prize money is a lot larger.

How come? Did the smelly sock you sent overseas to a launderette miraculously come back to you with somebody's spare cash inside?

I'm telling you, all lottery shops/offices will pay out the smaller prizes, regardless of your nationality, I've had payouts.

Different shops in different parts of the country.

So you pay 100 for a ticket marked 80 baht.

Then if you win the 6 million baht 60,000 goes in fees.

Then the wife's family will queue up for a loan from lucky farang  555

It starts with the lottery tickets pricing. Prayuth with his big mouth proclaimed that those are sold at face value ... well, after a few weeks the 80 Baht tix were 100 Baht again - your call!

you are aware this is a news story about how farang lottery ticket purchases just became legal right?

It has been for years. This is not new news 😤

You begrudge the vendors that tiny profit?   They can make no profit at B80 because they have to buy from distributors who are the ones that jack up the price.

Tiny Profit ?? What ?? If the sell 1000 Tickets That's 20k Profit in'it ?? That's MORE Than I Get for my State Pension !!

Worst value lottery in the world,

Agree!!!

"The Thai lottery features multiple prize categories, boasting a hefty total prize pool of 48 million baht across 14,168 winning tickets."

That equates to an average of 3,300 THB per winning ticket......a joke for sure!

It is if you just happen to buy 7-8-9-10  tickets of the winning number which seems to amazingly happen a few times ever year and this impossibility has been going on for decades...

You can buy multiples of the same numbers...

So if someone, for example, buys A4182314245C 9 times, and you happen to have that same number, they win 90% payout, and you win 10%... How many printed numbered lottery tickets are produced for each number?

8 hours ago, redwood1 said:

To the best of my knowledge no farang has ever won one of the top lottery payouts...Not a single time....At least in the last 20 years, and very possibly in entire history of the Thai lottery....

That could be because no farang has ever been permitted to buy a Thai Lottery ticket ?

No, the winnings are not shared, each ticket would win 6 million baht.

I would gladly buy lottery-tickets, but only if I could buy them online and get any winnings automatically transferred to my account.

Thank you for the clarity...

The article states 48 million prize fund, there's 60 million one 1 number....confused!!!!

Three years ago did the euro lottery when in the UK, in the W H Smiths with the entry slip in my hand, then thought na i'll do it on Friday. Went back and did it on Friday and the numbers came up for 104 million, for a few seconds thought that was it when checking online. The only problem was my numbers won on the Tuesday, millions did it nobody won. Bugger, will never do any lottery again.
