I would move to Dominican Republic in a New York minute if the hurricanes weren't so devastating. There is NOTHING hotter than watching a pissed off Dominican chick tearing some punter a new a$$hole.

You can have a base in Thailand and be nomadic 2-3 months a year.

And avoid buying an expensive house.

So this will make it much more affordable than the numbers you crunched.

Agreed 100%. That's what I do.

Spend 3-6 months a year in Thailand, and I split the rest between the US and Europe (with Australia soon to be added to the mix).

While in Thailand, I live on ~1,000-1,500 per month. Outside Thailand, $3,000-4,000 per month. No more than $40,000 a year.

1a. Thailand

1b. Hawaii

Thailand gets the nod because I can walk safely (except for crossing the roads) and easily to most everything I need immediately within 1km to 4km. Easy to get a taxi off the street, too. And my neighbors leave me alone, and I don't have politics thrown in my face 24/7. Medical care is good. I have an inner ear problem whose medications cannot all be acquired in the US.

If I were a billionaire I woulda bought Little St. James Island!

I would not mind a private island getaway, but I like people and most all that comes along with them.

A custom home with a heliport on Guadalupe, and boathouse with a 48 Hatteras hanging in it.

The only thing that stops me from doing this - I am just exhausted with travel. I've already been everywhere I've wanted to save one on the bucket list, and that will be done next April.

Nope, I'm happy as a clam.

Not this BS again.

In the Thai month in which you spent Bht 1000, what do you spend it on.

It just never ends does it. Apart from a few in BKK expats in Thailand are the weirdest breed of people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Not to mention massive cheap Charlie's.

Give it a rest, change the record, you dreary bore.

7/eleven noodle cup and a cardboard box to sleep in.

Why did you cut off the portion of the post that included the dollar signs?

like Dubai, Zürich, Monte Carlo, the south of France, Hawaii,

Zurich has too many immigrants, the park in Zurich is full of Africans.

Dubai has too many Arabs.

Monte Carlo has too many uber rich people.

South of France is too French.

Hawaii, I guess, but it's too far out of the way.

None of the places appeals. The only alternative to Thailand would be Singapore or Bali, though now its seems to have gone downhill. But even with those, I would still prefer Thailand.

Sorry but money and politics (and the power they bring) are the holy grail for many nowadays

And there are MANY TOPICS where that shït is welcome. I'm just asking to leave it out of what is a pleasant topic.

Tuscany perhaps.  Married to a big-breasted Italian gal.  Le donne italiane sono belle, eleganti e piene di charme. (Italian women are beautiful, elegant, and full of charm).

But reality? (slaps self in face to wake up) - really my only regret living in Thailand is that unlike foreign women who marry Thai guys, I have no path to citizenship via marriage.  If I did I'd take it.  I like Thailand, the culture, and honestly as a Theravada Buddhist, this is where I belong.  Although raised Roman Catholic, but now I'd be a square peg in a round whole in Italy.

Much more my type of gals👇

Multiple places but only if I can fly private.

I certainly don't see the "freedom factor" that is mentioned frequently on this forum.  There is no free speech or freedom of the press in any real sense. Thai law is stacked against foreigners and greatly in favor of any Thai who has the means to destroy you. The kind of legal insanity seen in Thailand usually only exists in places such as Saudi Arabia.

I'd have a winter ski chateau in the Swiss Alps but continue to live in Thailand. ⛷️

You've mistaking Thailand for Germany, the UK, and parts of the EU.  Unlike the UK and Germany, I haven't seen the Speech Police in my neighborhood - ever!

Ski in, ski out of course, with a pool, fully catered.

I’ve been wondering: if one could pick anywhere else in the world to live, places like Dubai, Zürich, Monte Carlo, the south of France, Hawaii, you name it, anywhere you might dream about, would you actually leave Thailand?

My guess is that most people wouldn’t. It’s not just about the lower cost of living that people stay here. Thailand has plenty of flaws, plus visa issues, banking and taxation challenges, but it also has something most Western countries lost long ago: real freedom. Here, you can live your life without anyone constantly telling you what to do, who to be, or how to act. There’s no pressure to fit in, you can get almost anything you need, and as long as you don’t cause trouble, nobody really cares what you do.

Yes, it’s far from perfect. The heat and pollution can be a big challenge at times, but for many, Thailand still offers the easiest lifestyle out there. One where you can do your own thing, stay off the radar, and avoid the suffocating rules now creeping deeper into other parts of the world.

So if money, visas, and logistics weren’t issues, would you leave Thailand for somewhere else? Or is this your last stop and still the last chance for the kind of freedom you can’t buy in the West anymore?

I spend my time in Thailand and went back to my home country, and I don't regret one single day going back

If I was filthy rich, I don't know if it I would even bother to visit Thailand again.

I would value health, safety, and what enhances longevity more, and that's definitely not Thailand.

I would likely go for a "Nomad Capitalist" style owning different homes in different countries.

As I love live English language theater, either New York or London for one port.

Not sure about other places.

I don't really like rich snobs so living among them wouldn't be so good.

There are places I haven't explored yet like Japan.
