In a bizarre twist, a Chinese man in Pattaya found himself in hot water after flaunting a firearm on social media, only to be apprehended by authorities.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Liu Feng, was arrested at his lavish residence after a photo of him brandishing a gun attracted police attention.

Authorities acted swiftly, securing a court warrant to search Liu's property on Thepprasit Road. Reports of his profile picture, featuring multiple firearms, had reached the Tourist Police Division, prompting immediate action.

Officers arrived at the opulent two-storey abode, valued at approximately 10 million baht, and, finding the gate unlocked, made their entrance.

Their search unearthed 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two BB guns, one short-barrelled and the other long. Importantly, no real firearms were located.

Liu, caught off guard, confessed during questioning that the weapons in the online images were borrowed for sheer amusement. The photos were taken for fun, he explained, and the ammunition was allegedly left by a friend.

Police seized the items and detained Liu, who now faces legal proceedings. This incident highlights the seriousness with which authorities treat firearm-related imagery, even when intended for harmless entertainment.

They obviously can't take a joke in pattaya?

Possession of illegal firearms perhaps.  Not sure if possession of live ammunition qualifies but likely does. Police might want to know more.

So everyone seems to jump up and point the finger - How do you know he or someone in that residence doesn't hold a firearms permit? They are pretty easy to get.

That's a reasonable explanation,...for a 15-year-old.

If you have a firearms permit why would you want a BB gun ?

Not sure what laws he has broken other than the ones that will see him in Facebook jail for a few weeks, possibly possession of live ammunition but doesn't explain why the bb guns were seized.

Prosecution case seems thin. He had BB guns, not real guns. Photos of what look like guns don’t prove they are real guns. Replicas can be quite convincing.

Sounds like the ammo is what will get him in trouble. Don’t think it’s legal to have it.

Non Thais cannot own weapons or get permits;

Foreign Ownership:

Non-Thai citizens are not permitted to own firearms in Thailand, emphasizing local control over firearm possession

They said no real firearms were found, BB guns are toys!

"Their search unearthed 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two BB guns, one short-barrelled and the other long. Importantly, no real firearms were located."

Can't believe so many of you are surprised he was arrested, 16 ROUNDS OF LIVE 9MM AMMUNITION was found, do you think he was keeping them for show?

Appears to be a Beretta in a Kydex paddle. The other one looks like an old Smith 9V by the shape the grip.

Not for foreigners they aren't.

And that was the result after they investigated, as stated he did have live ammunition and they don't fit into BB guns very well! Worth detaining for questioning and glad to see police being proactive.

Maybe he didn't have a permit for the weapon?

If a non Thai citizen then he cannot, except in very rare circumstances have a permit for the weapon!

"Foreigners residing in Thailand are generally prohibited from owning firearms. There are very limited exceptions, such as diplomats and representatives of foreign governments."
