Last year it took over 11 weeks despite applying one month in advance of expiry the maximum they would allow.

My question is I hope to travel for medical procedure for partner overseas.

Can I just pay for a re entry and return before the end of the under consideration return date which last year was 7 weeks AFTER the expiry of current extension.

I suppose my only alternative is allow the permission to stay lapse and start the whole rigmarole of docs home visits again?

How early before teh expiry could a 60 day extension to visit family member be done? may or not be long enough as the dates of procedures are unknown yet, and my current renewal date is very convenent a month when I am usually in Thailand and in phase with optimising my biannual passport renewal( this is due to ASEEAN nations and Mid East Laos Thailand filling my max 48 pages stamps not my issue country. I have tried getting a 2nd passport but no go.

Any experience of doing this most welcome, thank you in anticipation

Yes you can obtain a reentry permit that will expire on date given for under consideration period.

Your immigration office does not do home visit?

If they do that would be an issue.

I made my first application for non-o married 90 day. In hua hin a few months ago.
And was going abroad during the under consideration period.
When i made my application i told the IO, that i would be going out and he did the single reentry permit forv me without any issue.
So you should not expect it to be a problem if you return in appropriate time to get the approved extension.

Added.
However i do not think that you should take the risk of going out beyond your current permit to stay date. The under consideration period date to go back to get the approved extension can be after your current permit to stay. As you know from previous.
I would take no chances with what an IO at airport incoming may consider ok or not.

Yes.I did the same last year. You'll have to buy a single re-entry permit and return before the 'under consideration' date.

Agreed, and the IO will usually remind you on entry that your visa will expire soon.

Some folk sweeping under the carpet that immigration can do home visit..

If your immigration office does not then all good however many do a home visit.

I might end up with the same issue, as I have a company abroad as well and travel a lot on short notice.

Will follow closely!

Maybe having been married for 22 years (with just the one wife 😉) helps decide the officers a home visit is not really needed...

Nup.

It's more about the immigration office and their policy.

Obviously how busy they are also comes into play.

eg CW perhaps not many home visits

Understood, and yes its possible, but when i applied i discussed with IO that i would be going abroad when i asked for the reentry permit.

He said it would not be a problem.

So i think its important for people in this situation to advise the IO when applying for the extension and see what they say.

They usually do that home visit only once, the first time. I'm surprised by the length of that verification period. I live in Loei, they visited my house for the first application only and after that, it took each time about one month to get the actual Thai spouse visa…

You referring to all 75+ immigration offices or just yours.

Some have home visit ongoing.

My advice was directed to those folk.

Don't understand one word of your post.

This is the answer to your OP.

If the immigration office does not do home visit then obtain reentry permit to exit Thailand and protect your permission of stay.

Expiry will be date stamped in for under consideration date.

If your office does home visits then discuss with them.

Good for you. Some have one every year. Some not.

For those that do have home visit during under consideration period then travel abroad is problematic.

You stated....

"..this time he gave em water and and <deleted> seats in the sun to discourage a return visit..."

So the OP has had home visits in the past.

He could have asked if a home visit will be required this time.

Seems he did not.

Noted. Been in the sticks and offline a couple of days.
I had posted earlier referring to experience in Hua hin.
Trust the OP saw it.

what does that have to do with the price of wh*res at Nana? 😮 err sorry I mean the price of tea in china, sometimes i mix up my metaphors 😛

Some offices (in those one buffalo villages up in Nakhon Nowhere) don't do home visits, BUT some do.

The fact that you haven't had a home visit in 17 years doesn't really cut much ice as far as anything remotely useful

Just curious what's up with your animosity and rancor toward the moderation staff of this group. It's a pretty loosely moderated group and members are afforded a great deal of leeway before their comments are deleted

One last thing, just so you're clear, time in country doesn't equate to knowing sh*t from Shinola about how things work here.,Beating your horn and tooting your drum about being here 17 years doesn't really add a significant amount to a thread. I know people who have been here since the Vietnam war ended who are dumb as a box of rocks, and I know people who haven't been here that long who seemed to get their 'sea legs' and know what's what. .. ...

I will say though you do seem to live up to your profile moniker 😛 So well done on picking an appropriate one 😉
