Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra claims senators aim to oust Paetongtarn amidst voting collusion scandal.

In a dramatic turn of events, Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand, has accused a group of senators of plotting to remove his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, from office. Thaksin alleges that this action is a calculated move to derail an investigation into a Senate vote collusion scandal that could implicate them.

During a special event marking the Nation's 55th anniversary at the Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai in Bangkok, Thaksin suggested that the petition filed by 36 senators against Paetongtarn is intricately linked to accusations of vote-rigging in last year's Senate election. He posited that the senators, facing serious allegations themselves, are using this manoeuvre to escape accountability.

Senators' Ethics and Motives Under Scrutiny

Thaksin has raised questions regarding the ethical integrity of the senators involved. He claims these individuals are themselves embroiled in investigations over vote-rigging and other ethical breaches. Thaksin surmises that the senators aim to destabilise the government by July to avoid incrimination.

The Constitutional Court, in response to the senators' complaint, has suspended Paetongtarn from her duties pending a detailed review. Senators accuse her of compromising national security in an alleged call with former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, where she supposedly referred to a military commander as being on the “other side.”

Independent Bodies and Historical Precedents

Highlighting the influence of independent bodies in Thai politics, Thaksin criticised their outsized authority and legitimacy. Citing past instances where parties aligned with him, like Thai Rak Thai and Thai Raksa Chart, were dissolved, he underscored an ongoing struggle against politically motivated actions by these entities.

In a related development, Thaksin spotlighted an expanding investigation into vote fraud involving 138 suspects, suggesting affiliations with the Bhumjaithai Party, known for its recent shift from the ruling coalition to the opposition amid a ministerial dispute.

Election Commission Denies Imminent Legal Action

In another twist, the Election Commission (EC) refuted media speculation about an imminent legal decision regarding the Senate vote-rigging case. The EC clarified that their investigation is still in its preliminary stages, set to finish by 17th July. Any progression to prosecution will follow a detailed, multi-stage procedural review.

This unfolding drama underscores ongoing tensions and the complex mechanics at play in Thai politics, as both legal and political battles continue to unfold in the public eye. The stakes remain high as the situation develops further.

Not only the senators, they're all at it, except of course the Governor.

JUST IN: National Anti-Corruption Commission to launch probe into allegations of "serious ethical breach" by suspended PM

over her conduct in the leaked phone call with Cambodia's Hun Sen. This is a separate case from the Constitutional Court over the same matter.

Are that the same senators that got her in office, by refusing to vote for the party that actually should have been in power?

Of course, the BJT Party want power; they need time at the trough, time to legalise the illegal.

The problem is that ChidChob is smart enough to know that the best he can hope for in the house is second place.  The people are fed up and want something new and right now that is the Peoples party.

Having BJT as the main power in the senate is the next best thing.   What would be interesting and I can see it as a possible is that First they rule against Thaksin and PTP throwing the election open.  Then they rule against the senate and throw that open,

People get a late summer fall of election fever.

Thaksin gets to go back to Dubai with his sister, who will be severely pissed that he screwedup her chance to come home.

We end up with PP in power, no senate to try to screw that up, BJT back as the unloyal opposition PTP, and the Dems wonder where it all went wrong.

The surprising thing would be if there WASNT a bunch of schemes in play to disguise this or that malfeasance.

Its par for the course by politicians worldwide and is something that Thailand is truly the hub of.

Shouldn't the headline read: Senators accuse Thaksin of faking illness to dodge prison and of scheming to install his daughter as his puppet PM?

Glasshouse. Stones.
