Ellen DeGeneres Ditches the US for UK Bliss Amid Trump’s Reign

Featured Replies

I suppose the Cotswolds (or indeed anywhere in the UK that she dumps her suitcases in) will guarantee her a quiet life because nobody in the UK knows who the fk she is!!

On the other hand, villagers in places like Pedo-on-the-Wold will give her a frosty glance when they see her hair-style.

This is a devastating loss to the USA.

  • Jeez, could it get any worse for the people in the UK?

I'm glad she's found happiness. Politics and involvement in the US mainstream media are ingredients for an unhappy life.

Dont let the door hit your arse on the way out.

One can only hope that her ex staff can recover from the bullying and harrassment of this #bekind charlatan.

I wonder if she will return to the US now that it looks like the Epstein list is off the table?

So is my 17-year old granddaughter, deserting PA for Canada. Lucky she's a dual citizen because of me.

You might have the biggest military budget, but certainly not the best. You lost to Vietnamese farmers and you couldnt beat men in caves... form20yrs, and to top it off, then the men you fought took back control in 9 hours and gained billions in weaponry.

People may well want to kill Americans. But thats kinda what happens when you invade , destroy their countries and kill their families.

Its never for freedom, its oil & resourses.

Russia showed the USA how to deal with Afghanistan.

It will be tough for Ellen, sex toys are not as readily available in Cotswolds as they are in LA.

I don't hate her but I never liked her style. She's not strong, just overpaid.

You can remedy you feeling of devastation by taking her back.

Credit where credit is due. She threatened to move, and she moved.

Not a typical lefty liar then 🤔

Good Luck Ellen! Can you please convince Whoopi to move next door to you, I heard she is a great neighbor!

Ellen just joined the crowd of us.

It's a very big trend in the U.S. accelerated by the dystopian reality of Trump 2.0.

Come on over and out, the water's fine.

BTW -- I remember decades ago having two science fiction type fantasies about the future. Both have come true more or less.

Being able to sit at home and access most any film or tv show that exists on demand.

Trump the reason she left can't become irrelevant soon enough.

Trump will be relevant until his last day in office. I think thereafter he will have extremely diminished relevance other than possibly endorsing Vance.

That woman left out of irrelevance - she has no shame.

Ellen DeGeneres, famed US TV star, recently made headlines at her first public appearance since relocating to the UK. In a candid chat at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre, the comedian revealed she opted for English life following Donald Trump’s re-election. DeGeneres expressed to the audience that the current climate in America pales in comparison to life in Britain.

DeGeneres, joined by wife Portia de Rossi, discussed plans to wed again in the UK. Concerns over the potential reversal of same-sex marriage rights in the US have prompted their decision. The fear that America remains a challenging place for LGBTQ+ individuals to express their true selves is real, she stated.

Once one of the most recognisable faces on US television, Ellen acknowledged the toxic workplace allegations that ended her long-running chat show in 2022. Though known for being "very blunt," she brushed off such stories as mere "clickbait."

The couple initially intended to spend only part of the year in the UK. However, the day they arrived, news of Trump’s re-election changed their plans. Amid a flurry of messages filled with crying emojis, they decided that their stay would be permanent.

Ellen now enjoys a picturesque life in the Cotswolds, where she shares snippets of her rural adventures on social media. The comedian has embraced village life, finding joy in the charm, beauty, and simplicity it offers. “Everything here is just better,” she remarked, appreciating the cleanliness, courtesy, and humane treatment of animals.

The move came just after her final US stand-up tour in 2024. A house was bought in the Cotswolds, though the timing wasn’t ideal as it coincided with November's chilly weather. However, she expressed joy at witnessing snow for the first time. Portia has also flown her horses over, embracing their new countryside lifestyle.

Reflecting on Hollywood’s challenges for LGBTQ+ individuals, Ellen recalled that she came out as gay in 1997. This brave step resulted in the abrupt end of her sitcom due to dwindling advertising and network support. When questioned about others following in her footsteps, she humorously compared the situation to meerkats cautiously peeking out, wary of the dangers.

Despite some progress, Ellen expressed that coming out remains a formidable choice for many. Highlighting an increasing openness among the younger generation, she remains hopeful about future societal acceptance.

Ellen also touched upon recent moves by the Southern Baptist Convention to challenge same-sex marriage rights. Discussing the implications, she and Portia are considering a marriage ceremony in the UK should US laws change unfavourably.

Amidst the final season of her show, Ellen addressed allegations of workplace misconduct. The departure of three producers implicated in the scandal was marked by Ellen’s on-air apology. During her 2024 tour and Netflix special, she candidly confronted the “mean” label assigned to her by media amidst the allegations.

By character, Ellen is “direct” and “blunt,” but she questioned the fairness of equating this with being “mean.” She sought to balance addressing the issues without appearing as a victim or indulging in self-pity.

In this new British chapter, Ellen and Portia appear to have found solace and a promising future away from political turmoil. The couple continues their commitment to living authentically, hopeful for broader acceptance and understanding in their American homeland.

We have enough immigrant troublemakers in the UK, why would we want to take this despicable object.

I give her credit, she's one of the few who promised to move if a circus clown was elected, and actually moved. There are hundreds more who threatened to move and never had the courage to do so. I'm sure she's going to be living a very comfortable life in the UK and free from a lot of the problems that plague many people there with her staggering fortune.

I certainly can't blame her. I left the US, many people I know have left the US, and I know many people who would leave the US, if they could.

Your pic there looks like a great disincentive to illegal immigration, unlike the UK who roll out the red carpet to illegals. That guy moving here will be ok until they parachute 500 Afghans into his Cotswolds village.

While there are some high-profile celebrities and politicians listed in Epstein's flight records, Chrissy Teigen, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres are not.

Lefty liar. A funny expression considering the fact that the current Republican president is the biggest liar in the history of American politics. Or, do you deny that too?

Are you blaming Trump for all the above or America in general?

Of course not. I am simply taking exception to the brand of American exceptionalism he's currently practicing, and by the way I love your statement about America's inability to win a war, it would appear that we have more in common than we thought.

Are you having a hard time embracing the possibility that America is not the greatest nation in the world, or does your brain automatically equate the size of GDP with the word greatest?

A high population has many of them happening.

Also being a country that backs up other countries that need help, as Americans all have relations in all other countries, which means we stand up for them when in need, and our military is the best for that reason. There are terrorists and megalomaniacs that would kill all Americans if they could, only because they're disturbed and can't fathom what freedom means, being dictators themselves.

Health care is a problem that will eventually be sorted out. It can be just like Canada and the only reason it yet isn't is because of certain people not giving it the priority it needs.

Look at the problems this country has, especially regarding crime, children being lost, girls looked at as slaves, corruption, trafficking of humans, intentional homicide rate, road deaths yearly, daily drownings and electrocutions, along with many other negative things, but living here is cheap, so that, along with the women, is why the majority comes and stays.

If it wasn't for the women here, most would only come for the beaches and food, then leave.

Most gun crimes are gang related and suicides, whereas here knives and machetes kill people daily.

African nations have the greatest amount of children in poverty. 90% of children in poverty are SE Asia and Africa.

The highest obesity rate is in the Pacific Islands, The US. although it's bad, ranks 10th.

Worst carbon emissions is China, US second, then India. More cars, more emissions.

The children in the US have a much better lifestyle than many countries, especially this one.

There are many people who lived in big cities in the US and that's all they know, never or rarely venturing outside into the country areas, so have no idea what's out there.

The US is raked 30th in life expectancy at birth..........https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/countries-with-the-longest-and-shortest-life-expectancies.The highest infant mortality rate is in Afghanistan. the US is 165th........https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/infant-mortality-rate/country-comparison/

American pharmaceutical costs are 3-4 times that of most developed countries. Why?
